*UPDATE* ordered the shifter assembly from nissan for $54.00 with overnight shipping. should be here tuesday...

Just installed a racingline short shifter and two days later the plastic that links the rod from the shifter to the transmission broke. so i cant put it into any gear unless i open the hood and move it to 3rd or 4th. i was wondering if anyone has ideas on how i could fix this or do i need to get the factory part? just broke today lol bad way to start 2010

I'll take one when I get home. But its not the rod itself its the plastic at the end. If you go to racinglines site and look at the instructions you will see it. Here's the link for the guide its the part in step 6 that's circled http://www.racinglineperforman...l.pdf

No I decided to take it to Nissan. I took off the sts so hopefully they will warranty it and fix it free. I ordered the part Saturday and it was 100+ dollars. The dumb guy had ordered one for the automatic first. So he gave it to me for 90 instead so if all goes well my warranty will cover it.

i dont' see why warranty would cover it, it's a faulty installation on your behalf. but if you can get them to cover it then power to ya

not that it matters anymore since its fixed, but since you reinstalled your factory shift kit back on, the dealership would need to honor the warranty unless they can see that your mods were the reason for damage. i could be wrong though.

Maybe, but Im pretty sure that they could just say that they can tell when the shift cable has been F***ed with, and when it hasn't... that kind of stuff doesn't break in that way unless it is messed with.

usually they tend to say its aftermarket parts that messed it up. unless they have proof that it was the aftermarket parts that messed it up they gotta honor it. but since you happened to take it off yourself its now on your behalf

how did you try to take it off in the first place? there's a few threads out there about people trying different ways to get it off and i remember some people saying the easiest way was using the backside of a hammer i think?? search around and you should find the thread

i was trying to pop it up from the front then for some reason i tried the back and it cracked. but today i took a chance but used my head. i did it from the side because i saw the part didnt flex and it came right off. so hopefully i have no more problems
