I'm not 100% postive, but I believe the RE4R01A is what Nissan uses for the SR, so the bellhousing should bolt right up.
Transgo makes a shift kit for this transmission, you may want to get one (search on ebay). I have it, and it *really* firms up the shifts, especially 2-3 and 3-4. I really like it. Follow the factory shop manual, go slow and follow every step, keep it clean and its not difficult at all. Takes a couple hours.
At a minimum, if you dont use the shift kit, replace your dropping resistor with a 100-ohm ceramic resistor from Radio Shack. I would probably use two in series (200 ohms) on an SR. This will increase the line pressure at lower throttle settings and help prevent slippage. Not the best way, but it will work. I did it for a few years before I got the shift kit. Dont just unplug it the way some may suggest. It will slam the 1-2 shift and you will break parts quickly doing that.
An auxiliary transmission oil cooler wouldnt hurt either. I use one off a 90's Ford Explorer/pickup. Perfect size, dime a dozen in the junkyard, and Advance Auto and Autozone both sell a cheap kit ($7 or so) with nylon clips to make it easy to mount it to the radiator (or A/C condensor).
Oh and be prepared for the abuse from the forum talking heads for keeping an automatic. They arent nice around here.
