In a word, yes. The Brembo brakes have more stopping power. I'm not sure if they are 2-piston...but they will perform better. Now, they have the trade-off of making more brake dust and more expensive pads.

does anyone know why they did them for certain years only?

I know in the G37s they went with a similar design, but from the factory. It was an upgrade with the sport package.

They dropped the Brembos in 05 I believe...but they are an upgrade over the base package. Not sure why to be honest. But, with the G37, the sport package calipers look 100x better.

IIRC the brembo are 4 piston on front vs 1 piston and 2 piston rear vs 1 piston. Then the bigger rotor/surface area and the looks.
