I had a freind with the RB26 in a 180SX. twin 2835s, HKS VPC and an RB25DET gearbox. He did none of the work and it kept breaking, apparently RB26 oil pumps like to jump off and the shop he was dealing with was doing iffy work. It pulled about 500hp but was unable to put any of it down to the pavement. He would lose to SRs and 13Bs of similar power. Unless you are building a 1000+ hp RB26 and backhalving the car to make use of it, it is overkill that will net you nothing but curb appeal and a thin wallet.

Check out HKS's 180sx. They have installed an RB26DETT and it was running 7's (although that obviously can't be done bone stock). They had to cut out a good portion of the front end, thus making the vehicle less sturdy (I'm sure they reinfoced it somehow though) but this just goes to show how unnatural of a swap it is. As a side note I think it was harder for them because they wanted tp keep the AWD so spacing was more of an issue.

Team503 - Ari dominated with his RX7 but not this year. The Titan supra handed him his *** every time. I know of several supras that have tags and run 9's. Someone I know personally who recently sold his 840RWHP supra could only get into the 11s with his setup. The new owner has gotten into the 9s already with the same setup. Remember, just because you have the power doesn't mean you will make it down the track as fast as you should. Unless your car is an auto, it takes quite a bit of skill to launch and drive a car with that much power.

SSDwellah - How can you even call that a 180SX? It is a complete tube frame car with a 180SX style body on it.

SW's black T72 supra went 9.8 and was driven to the track. Full interior and everything. And the Venom Tacoma broke into the 6's is using a 2JZ-GTE engine. Like I said, you can have all the HP in the world but if you can't put it to the ground properly your time will suffer.

yea, he went 10.8 before going with a full alcohol fuel setup, haltech, and 4 additional alcohol injectors, and new tuning....guess he couldnt handle the added power, lol...im sure he has gone low 10's by now, that day the track sucked, not to make excuses for him....but driving a 10 second 240sx looks tuffer than some of the other 10 second platforms out there : )

I couldn't comment on the part about how difficult it is to pilot a 10 sec 240SX but when I finish my project, hopefully I'll be able to tell you. (If you haven't already gone that fast :))

these are word I have heard all to often re the rb26 power and the 240 or really the 180 a friend had an 180 here in aust and fitted with a 3037 he ran m/t street slick first time to the track ran a 12.3 for wait for it 100 mph cause he backed off half track cause he was using normal street tyres on the front and it got to shaky for him another driver got n the car got the ytres sticky 7500 rpm goes to lauch and bang input shaft from the gear box btw the box had an os giken gear set so we think low 11's was possible. With this set up the car was making around 400 hp @ the wheels @ 1.6 bar.dont expect the world from the rb engines

for the disbelievers this is the engine of the car.http://www.meggala.com/phat180.htm

There is a shop down here in okinawa that has an s13 with an rb26 in it. he is running a t88 on it with i believe a 2.8 or 3.0 liter kit. this car is sick. We run 0-150 m here and he is just as fast as an sr with a t67 on it. but on open roads that car is stupid fast. he runs 315 nittos and has little wheel spin off take offs. Ill try to get some video on this site in the next couple of days.

yeah but lets not forget that he lost at the last dragmeet to HAS's GTS-T with the T88ed RB25.The car is sick though, the only crazier one I have seen is the carb turbo L3.1 silvia. Same shop did that one too.

Hey, I H8 UR DSM, Your car looks awfully familiar.... My friend used to have the same car, with white buddy club rims that you have on, same color and had a redtop sr swap in it. He ran a 13.1 at atco on street tires with his boost turned up to 11psi and a starion fmic on a stock clutch.... He is from jersey... He just parted out his car... Did u buy your car as a shell from a guy in jersey? It looks a lot like his car, for a moment i thought it was....

Daunttless wrote:I have done 0 RB26 swaps, just like everyone else in the nation. However, this October I am putting one in my personal vehicle. The way that the swap comes out to 10-15k is that thers a lot of custom work involved, labor, and bpu parts and pieces tack on a bit. All that includes is the engine, installation, and BPU. You won't find it any cheaper ANYWHERE. : ) Enjoy your day

Yeah, good call, since you just quoted a post that's two months old. A few of people have recently completed the swap. Glad to see you're quick on the uptake. I kinda thought that everyone knew that.... well except you, apparently.

And upon looking at that page I'm gathering that that's no longer an RB26DETT, cuz i'm gathering it's a single turbo... Suprised they didn't catch that.

When I made that post, Osofasts wasn't finished yet, they are also building it for race and not for personal use. : )

Uh point of order. It's a 2JZ not an RB26. Still impressive and very nice work.

Actually, he ditched the 2JZ setup in favor of a RB engine. Those pics are old.
