Awesome write up! Ordering all the bits now. Any chance on reposting the pics to help out?
The pics still work, I see them. I have a extension for chrome called photbutcket embeded fix.
Awesome, thanks for sharing! Works like a charm!

For those who do not want to go through the modification, here is a bolt-on 150 amp option:

Just here to spread some additional info:

This Alternator used for the mod, was fitted on the 3.3L (VG33E) engines.

1996–2000 Nissan Pathfinder
1996–2004 Nissan Pathfinder In Australian Models
1997–2000 Infiniti QX4
1999–2004 Nissan Frontier
2000–2004 Nissan Xterra
1997–2002 Nissan Elgrand
1999–2002 Nissan Quest/Mercury Villager
1999–2004 Nissan Paladin

So in case the Quest alternators are hard to find, there are other options.

Also, anyone looking for a high output alternators, DCPowerInc makes 250/270 amp ones for the VG33E. It will definitely suit people who have high powered systems. They're a bit pricey, but look nice and may outlast the lower output ones.

Well, I’ve done this swap twice now. My first quest alternator failed six years after. It started sparking, which I think is due to excess tension on the pulley and being out of alignment just a touch.

The second install did require notching the spacer and grinding down the block. Thanks again for this write-up all these years later. ;)

Now people do the LS alternator swap vs this one. Additionally, DCpower has a 180/240amp RB specific alternator. I have since went with the DCpower 240amp over the Quest alt.

I have a rb25 and finely did these upgrade. I bought the 1999 quest alternator, I did everything in this write up. I hooked up the pos, neg and connector. I get no voltage. When I started the car my votage was dropping, I took off neg and car died.
I had the alternator checked twice before I bought it. I do have continuity between the pos post on the alternator and the battery connector......now what????

K
