Hello friends.

Does anyone have any experience with raw gas odor coming from under the hood AFTER the engine is off? I replaced all injectors last year with my new engine install. It is stronger on the drivers side where there charcoal evaporator canister is. Any ideas on what to check or how to fix?

Thank you in advance

Hey ACE-
Try snugging all 8 clamps on the fuel hoses. it's a pain, but very common to have them loosen slightly, especially when using non-Nissan fuel hose.

Thanks Jay. Just to clarify, which 8 clamps?

The 8 connected to the fuel rails. there are 2 under the front center cover (the spec placard)--easiest.
then there are two at the very back of the rails under the upper plenum (not easy to get to),
then there are 4 near the passenger side valve cover toward the rear.

I don't see any good reference pictures in the FSM, but hopefully you/your mechanic will be able to find them. For completeness, there are two additional clamps for the fuel feed and fuel return that go over the top of the pass side valve cover. Those are not usually the leakers, but they are easy to snug up too.
Let me know if you can't find the 8 and I'll try to get you some photos (6 of those 8 clamps are pretty buried, and I usually go by "feel')

I’m taking it back next week for the tech to check it out. I’ll let you know what he say or what we find

Nothing you want to leave to chance, engine fires are not fun, I would suggest you not drive until you get this fixed.

Do a thorough visual check on all the fuel and fuel vapor hoses, I'd even go so far as to remove the charcoal canister and inspect it as well. Unless you've replaced them there's a good chance that any original 31 year old hoses have cracks or splits. If you're smelling fuel then it's very likely your car is telling you it's time to replace any/all fuel system hoses that haven't been replaced previously.

Thanks Ryan. You’re probably right. 31 years is a long time for hoses to last. Add that to the list of things to get done.

Verifying the hoses are not cracked is of course important. I didn't rush to that recco because I recall that you had a JDM(?) anyway new to you engine installed last year? so my assumption (which is dangerous I realise) was that new FI rated hose was installed with the engine refresh.
Even if the hose is new, unless genuine OE Nissan hose was used, I have found that the underplenum clamps will slightly loosen over time and you'll get fuel smell even if you don't see anything.

Thanks again Jay. I did install a JDM engine last year but they did not install new fuel lines and hoses (retrospectively should have) so those are indeed most likely original. I had major hoses and belts replaced but didn’t even think about fuel hoses Are OEM hoses even still available?

+1 for Amayama. But even still some things are becoming obsolete there too. Fuel hose won't be obsolete. In fact you can buy gen-u-wine A6440-N7686 hose from a local nissan dealer, but it won't be cheap.
I have a spool, how about $10 a foot shipped? Let me know if that would help you

Follow up on raw gas odor. Finally found a slight crack in a fuel line under the plenum. Had to completely remove it and install a new line. Thanks for all your help and advice. The Q is now ready to roll down Woodward Ave for the Woodward Dream cruise here in the Detroit suburbs
