Ok fellow Nissan lovers... i have a 91' 240 hatch with 175 grand on the odometer. The timing chain is crapping out and it needs a new oil change and probably alot of other stuff. I just got it, i cleaned the engine with castrol super clean last night and today i started it up and the engine was clinking.. this was in nutural. OK then i put it back into gear and the RPMs start fluxuating from 900 to 200 almost killing it. It sounds like its about to stall but catches at the last moment..(while clutch in in 1st) i only let this go on for about 20 second then i put it in my garage and shut it off. I need help! if anyone knows what the problem is please tell me! or email me at [email protected]

My guess would be the timing chain thats crapping out. If you know for sure that it is crapping out you need to replace it ASAP. If not you will be driving down the road and you will totally fubar your motor when it fails.

ok i also need advice on what i should do. Im 16, get about 460$ a month. If i need to replace the timming chain it will cost around 1700$. I could do this, and get the engine rebuilt or i could get a sr20 to replace the whole thing. Or i could sell the car, get a problem free 240. or i can trade my friend for his 92 civic hatch with lotsa mods for free and sell it for about 3500. i got my car for 2000$ sooo please help

Ouch, Tough situation... Replacing the timing chain would be the ezest, but it is still expencive if you don't do it yourself... SR20, make sure you know what your doing if you plan on doing that, (i live in smog-natzi CA, and there are allot of laws to worry about here) You'll prolly lose money trying to sell the car as-is, cause nobody will buy it for 2k, if it needs a timing chain, trading it for a 92 HB, come on do you really wanna be lumped in with all the wanna-be's driving honda's? Of course your planning on selling it, but make sure you can sell it if you go that way, i had a friend i knew with a 92 civic SI, full bodykit, fresh paint, 17in rims, and hella mods he couldn't sell for 4 grand cause you can find those cars everywhere... (prolly why you can trade a 240 needing a timing chain for it...) but neways, just my 2 cents.
