As some of you know, I snapped the water pump belt and my Q is at the mechanics now. He found a bad pulley so he's changing all the belts and the pulley with OEM parts. When he was looking in there, he said my radiator is starting to crack. He recommended replacing it. Fair enough. It is original. My question is if that radiator can be re cored or repaired. If I have to change it then that’s fine too. I was thinking since I did overheat a little on Friday, should I wait to see if there's anything wrong with my Q, or get it done and probably save a little on labor since the car is there and it's probably accessible now. Mind you, the overheat was for about 2-3 munites in 30 degree weather, so I'm assuming nothing real bad happened, but you know what happens when you assume.

Recoring only cleans it really... Thats not what you want, if its cracked youre done for...

Check and see if you can find an aftermarket one with metal end tanks...

Thanks Wes, but I misunderstood my mechanic. He told me the radiator fan was cracking, not the radiator. He changed the fan, belts, & tension pulley. All OEM. Car works fine now. I don't think there's any perminat damage to the over heat. I think I escaped a close one.

EASY to check for overheat damage, if the KS are functioning the head temperature didn't exceed 275-300F for long. Read ecu flashes or use Consult. Remember KS won't illuminate check engine light.

The damage might take a few months to show so repeat the Consult test later.

Always replace thermostat after an overheat as the rubber surround deforms..............also the coolant hoses may have been damaged from overheat. Be sure to change oil and transmission fluid if it doesn't look exactly as brand new So why preventative testing is so cost effective.
