rack and pinion problem.

so i think my rack and pinion is messing up. the steering is stiff and it shakes when i get past 40 mph. i just bought the part from kragen, can anyone give me some information on the degree of difficulty to install a new rack and pinion.

To remove the rack, you'll need an engine hoist (since the rack is mounted under the oil pan, the motor needs to be unbolted and lifted a few inches to come out). The job will take a couple hours, but it's pretty straightforward with the right tools.

before you go through that expense, try replacing the rack bushings, they are a common failure point, also have the alignment checked and have a good look at the tie rod ends

darn i bought a new rack and pinion. thanks very much for the help. i dont have all the tools so im guessing that i should just take it to the shop to get it done.
