Is the brake pedal on a QX4 supposed to be softer than other cars?
No. Assuming nothing is worn out, broken, or leaking, the most typical cause of a soft brake pedal feel is due to air in the brake system. Another common cause, with the same assumptions, if it has been many years since the brake system was last flushed, is moisture contaminated fluid which changes the compression characteristic of the fluid.
The good news is that this is a seemingly simple fix by bleeding each brake line until the fluid flushed through it is coming out fresh and clean. The bad news is that if it has been too many years since the bleed screws were opened and the threads are now seized with rust, there is a high possibility of breaking the screws while trying to do this basic bleeding task.
Those tiny, hollow M6 bleed screws get quite fragile when rust has had years to corrode away their strength. Use PB Blaster on the screws everyday for several days or a week before even attempting to loosen them and use a 6-point hex wrench or flare nut wrench only. Never use any other type of wrench other than a hex. Good luck.
If the screws break, replacing the rear wheel brake cylinders or front brake calipers will be your easiest remedy. Extraction of a broken bleed screw is possible but it will not be easy.
Or .... Is it the same issue you were dealing with over a year ago?
