quick question about a 96 max

ok i am just wondering on a 96 gle maxima 5spd what is the speed limiter set at? Im guessing its somewhere around 130 mph. this is sort of a dumb question but im just curious. thanks

i got a 96 i30, I believe its the same thing under the hood. My stock gauge reads at 140 tops so I've been guessing around 125. I never had a chance to take it over 115 on the highway, I really should have topped it since if cops caught me, I'd be screwed anyways. Im interested in finding out myself...

The GLE model only came with automatic transmission...

If you have chrome trim around your windows, and a chrome colored front grill, you've got a GXE. Only some GXE's are governed at 115 mph.

GLE/SE models do not have a speed limiter.

sorry its not my car i thought it was a gle but it is a gxe. this one kid has a maxima and says it tops out at 154. 0-60 in 4.5 seconds which i no he is lieing about. i was just curious what the limiter is at. thanks for the help... im guessing the automatics didnt have a limiter and manuals do??? thats how it is with my s13

IIRC I believe the SE is the only one not limited.. I have seen a GLE cut off at 115-118, as well as a GXE. My SE has no limit.

There might be a signifcant difference here, but I'm going to assume they're the same.

In the I30 autos, you have to shut off overdrive and ride 3rd to redline, then re-engage it and they will pull to 140.

If you let the car shift as it wants to, it doesn't have enough power in 4th to push past 123ish. I thought there was something wrong with my I30 until I read about that. Unfortunately like you guys have said, getting my license suspended isn't worth it.

Theoretically the 5speeds should be able to go a little faster than the autos seeing that they don't have such a waste of power. Just a thought.

Oh and that kid that even the sports line beamer can barely push that. A sweet maxima that's for the most part a "family" sedan isn't goind to push 4.5. I remember reading that the 1/4mi time on a supercharged max is around 13".

FYI a guy named Hal from Louisville was running an 11 sec 1/4 mile in a turbo'd 3.0l Maxima with 10-14lbs of boost on all stock internals.

How much weight lightening did he do? What was his top speed for it? How much horse?

Taking a 3200 lb car designed for carrying people around and making the 1/4 in 11 seconds is a little hard to believe. Plus...who would ever run a turbo with stock internals? Are you talking engine internals or complete vehicle internals?

Stock engine internals. Full leather interior, a/c, moonroof. Search for Hal. "HLH0501"

Tilley also ran 11's. 4th gen turbo max.
