Anyone ever hear of removing both cables from the battery and touching them together for about 30 seconds to reset trouble lights? In my instance, I replaced my abs sensor, and the slip light, trac cont. off and abs lights are now on. I was told to try this, and see if it would clear the computer.

just removing the battery cables for a while will do the same thing... or turn on the headlight switch or step on the brake pedal or honk the horn to draw off any remaining current after you disconnected the battery?!?

you're better off if you plug in an OBD II scanner & check / clear that code ~ P1211 would be my guess... free to borrow at autozone or similar auto parts store

can be the wiring/plug that also triggers those lights ~ alerting you that ABS will not function; you'll just have regular braking until you find out if the wiring to power/ground are good ~fail-safe mode

when you installed that sensor, did you leave an air gap? pull it out again and check if the ring didn't chew up the replacement sensor...

I did not leave any gap, nor I did not think to. I will pull out sensor and check again. My home obd checker did not pull any codes at all. I will look for a more updated scanner and try to use it.

yes, you can do that with the battery cables. technically you don't even need to hold them together for 30 seconds. As soon as they hit, all power left in the electrical system is drained. it's a low level computer reset, and will reset much more than a cheap OBD scanner will be able to reach.

Well I did do it as in my mind, there "could" be power stored in the system, and I was hoping to be able to completely drain it to reset the abs troubles. It did reset trip fuel milage and radio stations. But the brake abs, slip and traction control lights stayed illuminated. I am currently going to check to see if I just wasted more money and ruined another abs sensor. If I did not, I will leave a little room by not pushing it down completely. Hopefully that will fix it.

Well....bust. no damage to sensor. Going to root through the FSM to see if there is a relay for it or...hopefully.... a circuit breaker! G20s had them for motorized components.

did you actually check the wiring to the sensor as well?

someone didn't do that and found a break in their wiring on an MDX for example:

his problem was a squirrel got to it and sabatoge his ABS system

ugh, just helping you cover your bases... hopefully the inner wiring is really intact, not just the outer sheathing... maybe a continuity test on the wiring itself

<shrugs> i hate electrical by the way

ok, saw that in another thread that you can't really diagnose this problem without having the CONSULT II...

http://www.nicoclub.com/FSM/Quest/2006_Quest/brc.pdf

BRC-53 the drawing on that page is that air gap i was previously mentioning... but looks like it should be there anyways since it's just a bolt holding that sensor in place

if you got a voltmeter, raise the vehicle... remove both wheels

unplug the sensor, stick the leads onto the plug

shift it to N & spin the front assembly to see if you are generating Volts! i don't really care the #, just confirm you're getting a signal out of both sensors

that can rule out a bad / good sensor at least

maybe goto the nissan tech section for more help or may have to bite the bullet & take it into a stealership or an independent that has the CONSULT II scanner
