I just got a good deal on a Holley 5200 carb which is identical to the Weber 32/36 in most ways except that it's built in mirror image for the most part, like the electric choke operates opposite direction, the secondary is on the opposite side, and the throttle lever turns opposite as well. I got past all those little quirks by opening up the adapter plate on the opposite side to clear the secondary throttle plate and making my own linkage from parts off the original Hitachi carb and the Holley, I also had to make my own cable bracket but that was easy, there's also the return spring issue but that'll be fixed this weekend. For the choke to work properly with the Weber electric choke coil it's just as easy as reversing the linkage at the choke valve, otherwise, as it heats up, it wants to close the choke instead of opening it up. Why did I go with the Holley 5200 instead of the 32/36 Weber? mainly because I got it as a last second bid for $20 off ebay and the carb was freshly re manufactured, still in the shrink wrap.
So far I got it installed with no binding anywhere, started right up and idle set to about 650 rpm then set the idle mix, got the linkage working and the cable bracket installed so everything works without any binding, this weekend I'll reverse the choke linkage so it'll run the right direction and make a return spring bracket, then I'll need to buy some jets to properly tune this carb to my engine.
Since this carb is made by Holley but under license to Weber it uses Weber internals throughout so I gotta use Weber jets for tuning but need a baseline for my Z24 engine...
Basically, this carb was set up for a '72 Ford Pinto with a 2.0l engine so now what I need to know is what jets to buy to set it up for the 2.4 in the truck.
