After owning Mustang GTs my whole life I'm ready for a change. The 2008 G35 coup looks like something I'd really like. I test drove a 2006 last year and there there were a few shortcomings (#1: audio system) that I think will be addressed in the 2008 model. I've been patiently waiting.

So here are a few questions for you guys. I'm new to this forum so hopefully these are not too stupid of questions. FYI, I'm not a racer. I'm a daily driver who loves torque, cornering, and moving fast down the highway.

1) Is the Active Steering option worth it? Tell me what you like/dislike about it and how it feels. Is it reliable?

2) Same question on the Adaptive headlights. Opinions please.

3) I'm thinking the AWD is not worth it for my needs. I'm under the impression its mostly for people who want to accelerate fast and maintain traction. This is not a high priority for me. Opinions?

4) Sale date for the 2008 coupe. I heard a rumor it will go on sale in June/july. Is this true or will it be closer to the traditional Oct/Nov timeframe model year introduction?

Thanks.

Hello Mr Spock,

I have an 07 Sport Sedan. It's not quite the same as the coupe, but I do have the Active Steer and the Adaptive Headlights. I've only had the car for a month, but here are my opinions so far. The stereo is very good. The bass reposnse isn't the same as Kicker or JL 12 inch, but better than any other system that came installed.

1) I like the active steer, the suspension is a little stiffer than the sedans that don't have it, but I would drive the coupe w/ and w/ out.

2) The Adaptive Lighting isn't really worth it, but the Intelligent cruise control that comes with the package on the sedan is a nice feature. I still have so much fun driving it that I haven't used cruise control, but if I did more highway driving that would be different.

3) IMO I don't really think you would need AWD. It's really big the farther north you go. I wanted it on a car, but manual transmission was more important to me. The sport sedan has the limited slip differential for the RWD, so it grips the road. I guess AWD is better on wet surfaces, but more for snow or slush.

4) I have no idea about the release date. There have a been some review on it recently. I guess Infiniti ran it against a 335 Coupe, and word got out a little early. Search online and you get some more info.

Again, my experience is with a sedan instead of a coupe, but drive some with different packages. I think you'll be real happy with a G.

The release date to hit the showrooms is August.

From what I have read the stereo in the '08 coupe will be much improved but I have an '05 and I think my stereo is fine so to each his own.

That is all I know. You probably won't like my next statement but people have differing opinions and that is what makes the world go round right?

I don't like the new coupe. The current one has better lines and appeal. They should have stuck more to the sketches. It looks more like a two door version of the sedan and the current coupe was very different in appearance than the previous sedan and thought that was great. While the interior appears to be much improved the outside of the coupe is very BLAH!

IMO of course.

Hello to everyone! My first post on this forum.

I also do not care for the looks of the new Coupe as seen in pictures. However, I suggest it is perhaps wiser to reserve final judgment until the car can be seen in person; some photography efforts simply do not do the subjects, human or otherwise, justice.

I currently drive a 2005 S2000, Silverstone/Blk leather. It's a great car, but I need more space and refuse to give up precision handling, so I'm looking to upgrade to possibly a 2007 G35 Coupe Sport 6MT, or the G37.

The tradeoff in more HP and improved handling of the 37 may be a worth it; i.e., living with somewhat less visual character/appeal, IMHO. I drove a 2007 G35 Sport Coupe 6MT and was VERY impressed. Have owned BMWs and older Porsches (356C series), and feel the G35 was/is getting close to that very special "road feel" of the German cars. Porsches in particular have always had a unique, intuitive, great connection/union between the Driver and the road. It is even better in the newer versions, apparently. Too bad that the $$ are in the stratosphere for most folks, yours truly included. I'm convinced I would be as happy as a "dead pig in the sunshine" with a G35/37.

BTW, I have driven an early version of the 911 Turbo on real twisty roads - breathtaking, but way beyond my means, not to mention the nasty insurance premiums!

I'll be looking forward to a run with the G37 when it's available. In the meantime, life with the S2K is not too hard to take! I'm enjoying this forum a lot -- lots of interesting members here doing interesting things with their rides!

While I hear you Don....pictures won't change my mind I don't like the car. BUT...that is just my opinion. Just because I don't like it doesn't mean others won't and I am certainly not saying it is a BAD car as it has 30 more horsepower and they are already building on an excellent previous model. I just wish they would have stuck more to the pictures.

I will be test driving the G37 as well when it comes out but I prefer my '05. I mean no disrespect at all to you or anyone and I am of course not trying to start a war on here or anything juvenile like that. I sinmply know what I like and what I don't and I don't like the '08 coupe. However, I am sure I will see tons of them on the road when they come out and of course they will all be in Silver, HA! Mine is dark silver and I swear there are like 5,000 of those things in Dallas so hard to be different in that situation.

I was actually at a light the other day with FIVE Silver G's (including myself), three other coupes and a sedan. Weird!

I hear you on the silver color. It's not just the G's, seems like a very large percentage of cars on the road these days are silver. My Mustang is silver and have come to dislike it (the color) for that very reason.

Back to my original questions... Anyone have some info to share?

I have a 2005 G35 Coupe black/black and am just waiting on the availability of the new G37. I love everything about my car, including the Bose sound system - for it's power and clean sound. I drive over an hour each way to/from work and am sometimes in the car during the day. It's comfortable, gets about 18 miles/gal and is FUN to drive. You can feel the diference with active steering. The suspension feels a little stiffer, but it handles easy.I don't personally think adaptive headlights are worth it, but I don't do alot of night driving and, most importantly, Dallas is pretty flat. If you drive alot at night and/or are drive a lot of hills or turns, then I would go for it.AWD is not worth my money. I have RWD with limited slip differential and have NEVER slipped in the rain or "snow", nor on the ice that Dallas gets a few times/year. But, keep in mind that Dallas is fairly flat. If you're in an area with wet/icy weather coupled with hills, then AWD would be the way to go.Admittedly, Mustang GT's are cool, but you will LOVE the G.

Good luck!
