So my boyfriend just did a VVL swap in his b13, the motor was super clean and it came out of a 2005 Wingroad or something like that so obviously it couldn't have had that many miles on it. Anyways we've been driving it around for about 2 weeks now. Now the coolant overflow tank is bubbling, the car isn't raising temp and it's not throwing white smoke out. Is this a sign of a blown or about to be blown head gasket? Could it possibly be something else?

Any help is much appreciated!

it could be a few things, Easiest of all, did he burp the coolant system?

Problem with people swapping engines, changing thermostats and hoses etc.... You get air in the system. Now if you dont burp the system of air, your engine wont stay cool, causing all sorts of other problems.

Easy way to eliminate this as a problem is to remove the radiator cap, and let the car idle with the radiator cap off. You may see bubbles rise and pop there, Meaning there is air in the system. Wait till the bubbles stop, top off with antifreeze and distilled water, and check again. If no more bubbles, everything should be fine.

Also to be safe, check the inside of the oil cap, or even the oil itself, for a Chocolate milkshake. Thats a symptom of a headgasket problem.

Yeah the oil is perfect. He's actually changed it about two or three times since we got the car so we could make sure we got everything out of the engine since we didn't know how long it sat. We also just bought a new radiator cap because the one we had was old and dried out. Hopefully everything's good now.

Thanks for the help!
