Just got the SR put into my car tonight and with my top mount turbo, I'm going to need to relocate my PS reservoir. My question is; can the reservoir sit below the power steering pump? I didn't know if the reservoir needed to be above the pump for gravity reasons or if the pressure can keep it flowing good. Thanks.

I've done alittle research about this and I haven't found anything that says it IS ok to put the resevoir below the pump. Try reading through wire tuck/engine bay tuck threads and you'll see that guys don't put the resevoir below the pump. I believe that the resevoirs are vented to relieve any pressure buildup. Therefore, fluid would overflow unless you had an airtight reservoir. I am not sure if that would affect functionality of the PS system or not.

cant u just get some return hose cut it to fit drill some new holes and move it over so it clears the turbo? i know it sounds like a stupid question but i gotta ask

Air floats upwards in a hydro system. You can't run a PS reservoir lower than the pump because it won't self bleed the air out, then the pump will run hot via friction/seals go bad and kill itself.
If you were to do this you could never get the system totally full of fluid. It would flow out the top of the res tank because then the highest point wouldn't BE the res tank.

Just move the res a little bit more forward. You can put a sohc reservoir on the 240sx driver's side strut tower, just bend the mounts a little bit and only 2 bolts will work but it'll be fine :)

My response is based on using a factory PS reservoir system. This is correct.
Unless you have a constant vacuum holding fluid up high at the pump, or a pressurized reservoir tank, an oem res won't work below the pump.

I notice the fluid in my power steering reservoir is sorta violently splashing around. is something fixing to blow?

Uh do you have a cooling loop for it? Sounds like it might be boiling over?

just get a longer hose from the auto parts store and relocate it a few inches to give you the clearance you need as long as you keep it above the pump and dont move it so far that you somehow kink the hose or something you should be fine dont over think it its not that difficult of a job really im not talking down to you or anything just sometimes people start over thinking small problems how much more clearance do you need anyway
