Okay. I've never bought rims in my life for my car. Right now, I have a black 2011 M37 (non-S). It has the regular rims on it.

I want to get these (in black):

http://www.treaddepot.com/wheelsizes/gt03b.html

I read as much as I could on "offsets" and it still boggles my mind, but that's fine. I assume for my car, I want the more positive offset? In other words, I want the most safety and less strain on my suspension. I went to a website and found two sets of 19's for my car. Offsets are +38 and +35 (I think?) It says one set is 19 x85/35 and the other is 19 x95/38. I assume they are both ok? Another website only has the +38 offset.

Also, should I go somewhere in person to buy rims, or order them online? What comes out cheaper, and better for me?

I know this stuff is probably answered somewhere and everyone wants to beat my face in. I just keep reading about offsets and rim sizes and it's getting me more confused and making me nervous about buying the rims (I want them though they are sexy).

I ordered my wheels online, but it never hurts to see them in person first if you can. That will avoid surprises as far as how the wheels actually look, versus in pictures. Problem here is the retailer may not have the exact wheel you want in stock. They typically order them online or by phone for you.

Now the offset, it will affect the looks and handling of the car. I had 19" wheels on my car for a little while. The fronts were 19x8.5 with a +30 offset. The back had a 19x9.5 with a +35 offset. I think the front would have looked better with a +20 offset, the ones I had looked "sunk in" as if they were too far into the fenders of the car. I would have liked them to be more even with the width of the fender.

I removed the 19" wheels because I thought they were too small (appearance-wise) for the car. I replaced them with 20" wheels.

Pics of my M37x with the 19" wheels:

BTW, my car had Eibach lowering springs installed with those 19" wheels. So if your M isn't lowered I would recommend considering it to get the wheels to look their best, yet I do not recommend the Eibach ones. The car still looks too high to me. I might try the Tanabe brand if I were to do it again. I know the Altima is in the way in the second picture but you can see how the Eibach springs didn't really lower the M37 a lot. There is a lot of space between the wheelwell and the tire. The 20" wheels fill it in a little better.

Wouldn't a +20 offset make them sink in more? I thought the larger the number, the rim was closer to the edge of the fender/tire? I still have a lot to learn.

I want to put 20's on my car but people keep telling me the ride will be rougher and the tires more expensive. Although my Impala SS had 20"s on it.

Thanks for responding. I am just tired of seeing those stock M37 rims on my car...lol. Here is a guy that put the SSR rims on his Nissan Fuga. I wish I had more pics, but that's all I could find.

I think they look pretty good.

Sorry to go OT slightly, but this may help others reading this thread...

What are the stock offsets for the the 18's and 20's that come on this car?

Stock offset is 43mm.
Doh! I'll blame it on Monday morning. Thanks!

So, anyone getting new wheels and lowering probably wants to shoot for a +25-30 offset? Is that the consensus?

It's all good, I'm only on my second cup of coffee. From what I've seen it's more like +15-+20/25 depending on the wheels and height. I think under +20 is safe for most. +25 and +30 I would be measuring to make sure since you getting into potential rub territory. Then you need to start thinking about tire size as well.

Keep in mind that the offset you choose is affected by the width of the wheel. I recommended a +20 for the 8.5" width on a slightly lowered car because that will sit the wheel near the fender. The lower the # the more it sticks out, the higher the # the closer the wheel is to the center of the car.

On the 20X10 I have on my M now, I went with a +35. This sits them pretty flush with the fender, but if I used a +20 on a 10" wide wheel and my current suspension setup, they would stick out a little.

As wideopen mentioned, tire size has an affect as well. In general, the lower the car is, the lower # offset will fit WITH the right size tire.

Thanks. My next rims will be either 20x9.5 or 20x10 with your usual 2" or so BC drop.

It's a big car, my opinion 20" wheels look better and reduce the sidewall. I hated my 18" stock wheels with a 50 series tire.

Agreed, 20's look best. 18's and 19's look too small for this vehicle IMO

Ok, then I may have to find a different rim cause those only come in 19's. But I haven't found any other rims I like other than them. I'll keep searching, I'm picky.

Its all a matter of personal preference and opinion. Personally for wheels with a lip the larger sizes tend to look better then smaller sizes do TO ME. For concave or full face wheels a slightly smaller wheels will look just as good.

I actually really like the style of the SR you picked out. Tried to find similar wheels.

Assuming I lower the car 2" or so with BC Coilovers, what would look best as far as sitting with the fender:

20x10 +45

or

20x9 +32

Which one would be as close flush as possible without the need for spacers (trying to avoid using those at ALL costs). I'm guessing it's the 20x9 +32's as I currently have 19x8.5's that are +45 and I need probably at least a 10mm spacer. I just don't know what the width of the rim means to the offset...is 19x8.5 +45 the same as 20x9 +45, etc.

Best site I've found for these inquiries. A 20x10 +45 won't fit the front without spacers though.

That is an EPIC tool. Thank you! Looked daunting at first, but after messing with it it's definitely helpful. Sounds like 20x9 +32 is the best option and if need be, I can get some H&R DRM (doesn't require new studs) spacers in 15mm or so to help out.

I'm sticking that post.

I think I'm going with Vossen CVT's. Gonna try something a little different this time around. I liked the videos/photos of other cars on their site with that set.

20x9 +32 and add a 15MM spacer in the end of needed (hopefully I don't need them). This is likely for the spring or summer time, so not anytime soon. My 19x8.5 +45 BE by Breyton's will then become my winter wheels (so they can be abused lol) with proper snow tires.

I really like those P101's.

I would love to slap some black ones on my M37. How much do they run?

Vossens are nice too, just wish they had more designs with a lip and more offset choices.

Lipless wheels tend to look bigger.

I like Vossens, just can't justify their prices for cast wheels :tisk:

True , I just prefer a lip on my next set of wheels.

This site has the P101s for $2300 each... yes, each! :rotfl

I've had cast wheels my whole life and the only wheels that ended up ever getting bent were my OEM 18's from my 07 M35x. I watch the road for pot holes like crazy and am constantly swerving lol.

That really sucks the P101's cost that much. Does anyone know other rims that look similar but are cheaper? That's the look I am going for.

Take a look at the Avant Gardes. Its a cast wheel but I believe them to be good quality.

Well...my cast wheels took a nice hit today.

I was in a parking lot taking snow fall pictures of the car and as I was pulling out I turned off VDC, cut the wheel, and hit the gas. Even with 2" of snow, wheels didn't break loose. They grabbed traction and somehow, after 10 years of doing precisely the same things when messing in empty parking lots, I popped the TIRE off the WHEEL lol. I was like whaaaaaaaaa? I didn't even realize it (and just thought snow got packed into the wheel as it felt very similar) only to realize I had lost air in the tire. Road on it for like a quarter mile before pulling over. Wheel only had rash, that was it.
