Checked my tanny fluid level today hot and it seemed to be quite a bit over the max mark. I had a transmission flush about 4 weeks ago. I checked it as follows:

1. Went for a 20 minute drive2. Stopped and moved shifter from 1st through each gear and finally into park.3. With engine at idle removed dip stick, wiped and then re-inserted, withdrew and measured

If this is correct is it a problem to leave the level high. It was about 1/2 inch higher than the max mark.

That may be too much.drain some out until you are at the max mark.

You <never> want foaming.

Sometimes, especaially if your fluid is really new, it will splash up and make it seem higher..... I have brand new transmission fluid (within 5000 miles) and here's my check procedure....

Run the car for 10+ minsshut down the car and open the hood... Let it sit for 10 minsStart it back up and then go through every gear, put in park and then check the level while idling..... I feel like I get a more accurate reading this way!

Mine was high after a recent flush. I had the bright idea that I could just drain a little out by loosening the plug. Put a small coolwhip container under the plug - kept loosening it up... just a little more - then "clunk" - the plug came out, cool whip container overflowed before I could get another container, and my garage looked like a murder scene! That fluid is really hot and I couldn't get the plug back in w/o burning myself! My point being - do it when it's cold, or go ahead and plan on a full pan drain...

I checked mine after a 10 minute drive... seems to be an accurate reading.

And yes, I'd make sure the level is correct.
