I replaced the #2 cylinder injector in my '97 and think I hydro-locked it.
Replacing the injector, a lot more fuel than i'd realized drained from the rail into the cylinder.
I didn't think to suck out any fuel in the cylinder before installing the new injector or pulling the plug before starting.
When I turned the key, I heard a 'kaaa-tink' and it locked up. Now, I only get dash lights and can see the massive draw.
I removed all plugs and found them all to be dry.
I removed the radiator fan and loosened all belts so I could get the 30mm socket on the front of the crank.
I cannot budge it in either direction.
I've pulled both covers and see nothing obviously busted or out of place.
I'd also loosened the starter to the point where it would spin - so, I don't think its the starter

I thought I'd see if folks smarter than me had any further ideas before I scrap it

Thanks in advance
Shadetree Jim

Did the engine fire when you first cranked it?

If not, seems like the starter wouldn't be strong enough to break or bend something on its own.

If a cylinder fills with liquid while the engine is turned off, the engine will refuse to turn when a starting cycle is attempted. Since the starter mechanism's torque is normally much lower than the engine's operating torque, this will usually not damage the engine but may burn out the starter.

Pull the spark plugs, remove the fuel pump fuse and see if the engine doesn’t turn over.

Thanks for the replies
I'm pretty sure I heard 1-2 cylinders fire before it locked
I do have all the plugs out and, when I removed them, all the holes were dry as determined by putting a suction pump hose in the plug hole of each - that was immediately after the lockup.
I pulled the fuse for the fuel pump - no change (all plugs are out at this point)

You can't turn the crankshaft manually (preferably clockwise) with the starter and plugs out? What was going on initially that led you to replace the #2 injector?

Are you using a breaker bar on the crankshaft bolt?

You may need a cheater pipe on the end of it to get enough leverage.

Thanks again for the assist
I did use a cheater on the crank (plugs out) - total of about 3'; I was only able to seemingly tighten the bolt without moving any of the cams (covers off); tried both directions with some 'bumping' also. I didn't think it prudent to use an impact but, at this point ...

Initially, I'd had a recurring CEL & #2 misfire code. After resetting it multiple times over several years, replacing what might be a stuck injector seemed to be an easy 'try'. I did try several of the additives, run it long/hard, drive it like I stole it, etc. Nothing seemed to change. Of course, it was most noticeable at idle and hardly noticeable at speed.

Ugh. So, unless your starter is still locked on the flywheel, It's sounding fatal. best guess would be broken piston #2, possibly bent #2 rod causing piston to crank throw interference. I have seen both, on hydrolocked/leaky injector VH45DEs. And yes, unless your battery is weak, the starter has enough grunt to wreak such havoc.
 sorry to hear.

Thanks 3Q Jay.
Now, I just need to figure out what to do with it ... part it out or just junk it
