How should the drive train feel on a Q when say accelerating smoothly from rest to 60 mph.? Mine feels ok but doesn't seem turbine smooth like say a BMW 6 cylinder engine. Maybe it is that I am not used of a V8.

From a mechanical noise and feel point of view I can hear a different pitch when the car is in a lower gear definately a transmission sound (slight whine - not objectionable) and there seems to be a subtle underlying vibration as you accelerate.

Any comments, comparisons you would care to make?

I am re-posting this. I am trying ot understand just how smooth the Q should be. My idle is more or less steady at 550 - 600. I do feel some drive line vibration though when I accelerate. It is generally worse when cold. When cruising there is a subtle vibration I can feel through the seat. Steering wheel doesn't vibrate at all so I am not suspecting wheel balance.

I have carried out a fairly deatled service including plugs, pcv, all fluids, replaced a few suspect hoses.

What do the expert I suggest I look at?

I am assuming, maybe wrongly that the Q45 V8 should be smoother than a six cylinder BMW from a drive train point of view?

The Q45 is very smooth when running perfectly.

Are your tires balanced?Have u had a power balance test done?

I have not had the tires balances since I have owned the car about 2 months on the basis that the steering wheel doesn't exhibit any evidence of vibration at speed. Maybe this is a bad assumption and the balance can be out without the classical steering vibration.

No I have not had a power balance done. Assume this would need to be done at a auto shop with a diagnostic unit. Is it worth me carrying out any self diagnostic tests first?

Having replaced the plugs the idle is rock steady. The vibration is very minor but can be felt on a smooth road at all speeds. I can feel it through the seat when I accelerate. I don't feel this in much cheaper cars like the chrysler concorde. I am suspecting tires, engine transmission mounts or could be related to my active suspension which needs the strut accumulators changing. I am doing this next week assuming my fluid arrives from Scottsdale
