ive done it, it's wicked easy.
First things first, UNPLUG THE BATTERY!!! It's not really important but whenever i do anything that has to do with electricity i always unplug the battery.
Now jump in the car, you have to take the 2 plastic covers off of the steering column.
Where you put your key in you should see a silver tube and on the end there should be a little cylinder plugged into it that has about 5 wires soldered to it.
Take a small phillips head screw driver and unscrew the screw(s) that hold that cylinder in, it should pop out no problem.
Now follow the 5 wires to their connector under the steering column and unplug it.
Take your ignition switch (thats what your now holding in your hand) inside and now you can start the mad scientist part.
Go to any parts store and get one push button type switch and 2/3 on/off toggle switches.
Now cut your ignition switch at the cylinder and keep/toss the little metal cylinder.
There will be about 5 wires, a white/red one. A black/white one. A black/yellow one. A blue one and a green or yellow one, i forget.
The white/red one is where you get your 12v power from, so this is the important one, youll have to figure out how you want yor switches to work before you start.
I had power going to all switches at all times, so i could individually turn on my accesories and my ignition if i wanted, plus it was easier for me at the time.
start off with the ignition switch, this will be one of the on/off switches and will turn on everything. Wire in the hot and the black/white one and the white/red one according to the directions on the back of the box. Then, using a voltmeter check your work by checking the continuity of the switch when placed in the off/on position.
Do the same with the accesory switch, using the blue wire and you will now get your power source from your ignition switch, just bridge a wire over and connect it to the pos. on the switch.
Again, check for continuity and then move on to the starter switch.
This one is easiest, just run the black/yellow wire and a power from your ignition switch to it and check for continuity again.
Now, hopefully everything went well and you can plug your new ignition switch into the connector under the steering column to test it out, but before you do make sure to reattach the battery so you have powah!
Now flip the ignition switch to on, all the dummy lights should come on and you should here your fuel pump whine.
Next, if you have a radio, flip the accesory switch...hopefully you radio should come on. If you dont have a radio and still want to check if you did this part correctly, try using ur windsheild wipers. If they come on then your accesory switch works correctly.
Now last but not least, push the button and hopefully your car should come to life!!! Dont try driving anywhere yet, because your steering column will lock without the key in it.
Hopefully this helped, ill try to get some pics, but i have all my switches already wired in and they are all attached to a metal plate where that radio n stuff used to be. So when i get enough initiative to go unbolt the plate and check the wiring, ill try to put up a walkthrough, but for now this should suffice.
I am in no way resposible if you **** up your car trying to do this, i blew 2 ignition fuses trying to make this work but if you do your homework and make sure your starter wire goes to the start and ignition goes to igniton, you should have no problem(i did opposite and ****ed myself over 2 ignition fuses).
But hopefully it all works and you have a new handy dandy push button ignition!!
