so a bigger cam on the intake makes more power; somebody was in doubt?

It wasnt really about the doubt of the increase of power or torque.... it was about obtaining some real world data...

There has been a lot of debate about this modification over the years, not unlike the butterfly effect , however real world data was hard to come by..

However, all builds are not created equal, there will be variations on end result between motors, but at least this is a starting point...

Those people are dumb, don't listen to them.

depends on where you wear them. Wear em like normal you're a transmission, on your head you're just a garden variety perv.

isnt there some debate also about the use of stock cam gears vs. aftermarket?

not really debatable. Stock is inaccurate; impossible to degree the cam without adjustable sprockets. As far as advancing or retarding the cams you will get gains in one area but at the trade off of a loss elsewhere. If you are opening the valve sooner it will also close sooner.

the cam gear issue discussions stemmed from using stock gear with the exhaust cam (being ground a few degrees off) vs the 'infamous' CA16inlet cam & stock gear.

From that thread, he "fitted a CA18DET exhaust cam to the inlet side with cam gears set 5 degrees retarded, which basically gives it the same spec's as if you slotted a CA18DE exhaust cam in with your factory gears."He only dialed in 5 degrees retard due to DE/DET valve timing differences.

Stock gears are 'accurate enough' to yield consistent gains from drop-in aftermarket cams

during the 'normal service life', you reckon you shave enough of either/both surfaces to skew the cam degree out even a single degree ?

...besides, whatever you loose can be restored with a 1.3, 1.6mmm etc. (thicker vs oe 1.2) head gaskethttp://www.sxoc.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=361217

Of course when you're tweaking for that last bit tq or hp..... get the gears

I would not select a gasket to correct a height issue. I would go with thinnest gasket possible that still delivers a good C/R.
