I got a small bit done today in the 2 free hours I had after Physics lab. Anyways, the downpipe bolts from hell finally came loose but then an even more powerful foe was encountered... the driveshaft bolts from hell. I PB Blasted the f*** outta these things and they still bent 3 of my ratchet heads. These are the only thing keeping my engine in so any tips on loosening these without ****ting out my intestines would be nice.

If you're bending your ratchets, you need to get better tools, or at least one decent breaker bar.. and then don't overtighten the driveshaft when you put the motor back in.

P.S. rod bearings don't take a month and a half to get shipped to you. A Sentra SE-R uses the same bottom end bearings, so parts are readily available. If you bought them from someone who told you they have to be shipped from japan, you either got served or they don't know much about the motor either. Find out what grade you need, go to the dealership and you'll get them in a couple days.

p.p.s if you've got rod knock, you don't need to spend god knows what to rebuild the motor just to have fun with it. I replaced my blacktop's rod bearings with o.e. last winter, left everything else as is, and i've been pushing about 280bhp almost every day since then with nothing but smiles. Unless you've got weak compression or leaking main seals or other unpleasant sounds, I wouldn't bother even touching anything else. Except for maybe the timing chain tensioner, there have been at least 2 revisions to its design since the early 90's. If you hear a metallic sound for about one second when you first start the car after it sits overnight, a new tensioner will fix it. It's $80 and takes 5 minutes to replace. got mine from everythingg20

Do yourself a favor though and get nissan brand gasket sealer.. and remember to try to not touch the bearing surface with your bare fingers. If you can afford it, get a tube of graphite assembly lube too.

edit: i just looked back through this thread... if you were to get one rotating assembly upgrade, i would have chosen cp pistons. the stock stock piston ringlands will go bad (lose compression) from abuse before stock rods will.

I think the rod knock was more of an excuse to do a build...

If your local dealer parts department forgets to put an order in, it can take quite a while for bearings to get to you I waited on main bearings for about a month because my parts department strung me along for 2 weeks saying my parts were on the way when they never even ordered them. Ended up using Arch Abraham Nissan in Cleveland (added more shipping time, but it's now a principle thing against my local dealer). Then to top it off, Nissan FAST doesn't tell you if the bearing pack is oversized, so they sent me a bearing pack of .25" bearings that were way too thick to work. So I ordered a set of ACLs instead since I could get them quicker and cheaper.

And for gasket maker, I prefer Toyota's brand of crankcase silicon. Out of all the silicon compounds I've used, theirs has been the best. And it also isn't an ugly orange color. Black 4 lyphe! But Nissan's brand of gasket maker is high quality as well.

Negative Ghostrider. Pattern is full.

Anyways these pics are kind of old, I'm missing a few tools to get the head removed and block apart so this mini update will have to do until payday.

Engine bay empty and dirty. Just the way no one likes it:

Exedy, nice and pwned. Good clutch though:

Gross transmission. I forgot how much gear oil reeks.

TIME TO PLAY "DOES YOUR" !!!!!!!

Does your engine stand lean like this?:

I think before I put the engine on the stand it was standing straight up. Oh well. It doesn't look like it's going to fall so I'm fine for now. It's supposed to be fine for 750lbs.

Nice!! You finally ended up getting it out, solo? OO yea, also, my engine never went that crooked, it leaned a bit but DAM!! yours looks like its tipping over. Are you sure you mounted all 4 points on the stand to where the transmission meets the motor?? Looks like the top mount on the stand isn't mounted, or it could just be the pic.

Hahaha f*** that. I put the weight back onto the lift until I figure out WTF the deal is with that freaking stand.
inkslingers13 wrote:LMAO never mind, yours was welded back words!!! return that **** LOL that sucks man
I dunno where the receipt is... I'll try to get this one straightened out and if not I'll sell it on eBay.
duffman1278 wrote:Nice!! You finally ended up getting it out, solo?
Yeah. The chains I strapped around the intake an exhaust manifold were too long which is why the oil pan wasn't clearing the radiator support. I cut them so that they were about 6 inches shorter, which raised the engine about 6 inches higher and it slid straight out. Everything is bolted up on that engine stand. That's the actual Stand leaning like that. I dunno WTF the deal with it is, but it's annoying getting hung up on something so trivial.

Unless there is another company that labels their clutches Exedy other than Exedy I'm pretty sure LOL.

I'm thinking I put it together wrong. Before I call it quits I'm going to take it apart and read the instructions again. That support bar stub thing behind the main beam seems like it would go in front of it. I'll just flip the front wheel bar around and try again.
