Well she's been done for about 3 weeks... but the new nico isn't supported at work (probably a good thing for me)... so no more posts from there. I'm not so sure about the Sileighty any more... I'm really digging the stock/sleeper look. Finally got some pics (two old suspension pics included)... so here they are... unfortunately the turbo is on it's way out due to the abuse required to clock it (aka a hammer). So a rebuild for it is in order, but with only .4 bar she's pulling pretty hard (ran with my buddy's decat'ed VR4 on the highway). The RS*R is really nice and deep sounding... but it's to loud for continuous use. I'll add a flanged premuffler soon so I can switch out between the two (silencer really kills power). Those permacool fans are awesome!!! My car barely gets to half on the stock temp gauge (KA thermocouple) with them on in very humid 80 deg heat. Today it was sitting between the first and second tick marks. Ok... here are the pics:

Carl! Just the nigga I wanted to speak to.I made a post in 240 Tech about this to no avail--my Tach reads very...well, slowly. It seems to read idle well enough (1100-1250) but when I rev the engine, the tach rises oh so slowly and never gets to where the engine is. I've redone the connection a couple times to make sure it's a good one but no change. Any ideas?

The intercooler pipe is part of the Hybrid R33 kit I got... the hot pipe out of the kit is a custom unit I made out of one of the stock sidemount pipes, a section of 2.5" and a 2.5 to 2" reducer with a bead on the lip to keep it from blowing off.

Those are the 12" High Performance perma cool fans. As I said before, I highly recommend them!

Thanks for the complements... the engine bay is rather dirty... but I'd rather drive it than clean it right now... heh.

hrm, i dunno man.rb's sound like they are revving higher than they actualy are.dunno if you are still on still on the stock exhaust as it will def rev very slow.sorry to hijack the thread, car is comming along nicely, what i would have had if i still had my hatch.

I really dig your car, so stock looking it's disgusting. I thought my FMIC was big, yours is HUGE. It's still very clean and new looking too, good stuff.

Thank you very much! It's really hard having it down in NC while I'm up here in MI for a bit.... but with the turbo on it's way out... I guess that's a good thing until I get a rebuild.

The more I look at it... the more I'm definitely keeping the stock look.... so out with the Sileighty idea. The only things I will ever do cosmetically will be fix the dents, shave the spoiler, paint the car (paint does need some help in spots) VW Platinum Grey or BMW's Anthracite (both charcoal colors), and 96-98 taillights. Yet... these won't happen until I get a turbo rebuild, 5 lug hubs, brakes (not sure on which ones), larger brake master cyl, RPS clutch, Rega Evo's, 4 or 6 point cage and Takata harnesses.

It really does look great!

I haven't seen too many other people with the S15 seats. Money well spent.

To the average driver I'm sure the Sil80 look would still be very stock looking, it doesn't jump out at your like the S13.5s or S14.5s But once again, very nice car. I wish I had a RB2X (any of them would do), but oh well, for the most part I'm happy with my SR.

Thank you very much!

I actually saw a Sileighty with an SR up here at an auto-x event (also has a Kei Office suspension set...) with the stock front end... I see what you mean... It really does look good and simple. I guess we will see... heh... but still, there are quite a few things I'm going to do before she gets a front end.

WOW! Your car looks sooo nice!! I really like the way things go together with the gauges, FMIC, Charge piping. Motor looks like it belongs there.

You can use the stock driveshaft on a 20 swap.

Thanks bud! That's the look I was going for... My favorite question is, "so what did you do?"

looks good man.

i saw you said "hybrid" fmic from the r33, guessing you used the stock pipes from it and modded it?

Thanks bud, hybrid is the company that makes the intercooler and piping kit. The piping is actually unmodified, but you do have to make a hot pipe to finish things off. I'm actually still going to redo my piping to smooth some transitions up a bit.

LOL my bad.

im pretty new to Nissans and the manufactures for the parts, but im catching on quick. Im a huge fan of the skylines all the way back to the (Prince Corporation) and loving the 240's more and more each day, but glad you cleared that up for me.

Any updates or other advice you could shed on, let me know.

again sweet car bro.

I like your car. It has been done well. I can tell lots of work has gone into it like all Rb240s. I really like the suspension set-up, but I don't get the OEM front bumper with that large FMIC. I have seen this on some other cars. Looks like only the bottom 1/3 of the FMIC is seeing airflow which has to be robbing the FMICs efficiency to cool the charged air. Does this concern you? I understand the sleeper look but not to rob your FMIC of its duties. The bumper cover was the first piece that went into the trash off my car and I've never even driven it (ever). Are you plaaning on something different for the future. I do like the car just not the front bumper. Just my opinion.

That is a good statement... and thanks for the complements on the car.

There is a gap between the front valence and FMIC... just as your radiator is taller than your front bumper, the lower portion of the FMIC is being hit by the air and still being pushed up and sucked/pushed through.

I'd be interested to take temp variations from the top to bottom of the FMIC b/c turbulent air (like the air coming off of the mid section behind the valence which blocks direct flow) has better heat transfer properties than laminar (smooth) flow.

I think if I were to put a block off baffle that allows no air to pass over the FMIC... that would promote higher pressures at the top of the FMIC (as velocity decreases pressure increases) and might not only push more air through that section, but might push air toward the radiator around the sides FMIC with some additional baffling. It's always cool when someone's question generate new ideas!

Hope that answers your question.

Did you also calculate the deflections under load for the motor mounts? What material did you use(tensile strength and thickness would be particuarly nice) any pics of the mounts before the motor was installed? Thanks!

No... I did not calculate the deflection under load. I felt that with the very low number produced by the static calculation combined with the I6 being naturally balanced and that the motor is still on rubber isolators... the crossmember extensions should hold up just fine.

I used 1/4" steel plate that I picked up from Lowes (if you want numbers you could probably just look up any standard Fe content mild steel to get a good idea).

I didn't get a chance to snap a pic before they went in... but there is one in the group of pics in the link under my signature pic.

Sorry I just now got around to it, but your 240 is awesome! Great looking and with a great powerplant.

Keep up the good work.
