Greetings! It's been a while since I've been here.

My name is Elton. When I was young and immature, I was #1 Sailor Scout on this forum. Back then, I had an '07 Honda Civic that I thought could take on the world. I even bragged about racing and beating a J30 a buddy of mine had back in college.

Boy, have times changed.

The Civic is no more. It got crushed by a tree during a bad storm the night before Father's Day this year (2018). With that said, I decided it was time for a more mature vehicle for my family instead of a wannabe racecar. Oh, did I mention I got married? 3 years and counting!! :chuckle:

Fast forward to the present...I now am a PROUD owner of a 1997 Infiniti J30!! My wife and I decided to name it "Luna," hence the thread name. We will be modding it piece by piece, but the main focus is to keep her running and in tip-top shape.

On to the pictures (if I remember how to post them!!!)

Good choice! I have a 1997 J30T and it is a great car. I only have 65,000 miles on it so no problems to date.

Make sure you know at what mileage the timing belt was replaced.....if that breaks while running, you're done for.

As of this post, mileage is 169K.

I do agree; the timing belt needs to be changed again; that's actually my next target on my list when I get the funds to do so. Medical bills caught me off guard, so I had to take care of that. In the meantime, I am babying the engine (no harsh takeoffs; no hooning; etc.) I also drive my wife's Honda Pilot more to keep the miles off until we can get said timing belt replaced.

I will be doing a Seafoam treatment after the timing belt fix. It's not running rough or anything, but more of a peace of mind thing. No telling who used what kind of fuel before I bought it, so...yeah.

For the record, I have been using premium fuel since I bought the car. I think J30s require minimum of 91 octane, right? Alabama has 93 octane for premium fuel (some stations use 92), so I think I should be fine.

yes, premium fuel only is in order for this high compression engine!
Make sure when you change the timing belt, you replace everything, yes everything you can underneath that timing belt cover....ie water pump, tensioners, etc.
Nissan has a timing belt change kit that shows everything that should be changed at that time....

this forum dates back quite awhile.....do your research on it, and you will nuggets of info to upkeep the car.
There are not many people current on this forum anymore...so forum searching can give you lots of info.

My 1997 J30T has only 56,00 miles so I am due the 4 year 216,mile timing chain and waterpump / belt tensioner swap. Will do! no matter how many "let t go" responsers.
