Hon-duh's are rice. If you can't afford to build your z right now, you won't be able to afford to build an rx-7. Go with the 240. ROTARY is a whole other monster.

aren't you already bellyaching you can't afford mods for the Z?

and if you did want to start a project and learn a bit why nto the obvious, an older Z, take your pick 70-96

My vote is for an older Z. But, IMO rotary engines are pretty simple. Between 1990 and 1992 my friend and I re-built a '79 RX-7. We had no idea how much HP it had but we could bury the needle at 160mph in 4th gear and it was a 5-speed. We estimated the top speed was around 170-175mph.

I think its a dumb idea. If you have extra money there's plenty other things you should be doing with it at this point in your life...

well hondas arent rice if u build them right. and the other part was that if i get a fwd car like a civic or teggy i can use it as my winter car in the coming years. i got this idea while droping the front sub fram on my friends 94 teggy ive been helping him on nice days the one day we were under the car from 12:30 pm till 9:45 with short breacks to auto zone to barrow certain specialty tools when it got dark we rolled the z into the back yard tuned the head lights on and kept going by the end of the day we had the front sub frame out and started on the rear.

honda motor's lack one major thing a lot of other motors have = torque... They are just no fun + front drive. I vote honda if your getting an S2k for the project car - doubtful. Other than that a 240 or 300(zx) would be more ideal. I would just go buy an sr20 (or w/e you go with) and build it then buy a shell for it when you are done.... whats the point of having an entire car sitting around while you build the motor? Motor's take up a lot less room than a car, and are easier to work on out of the car. What is your goal with this built beater? Drag, AutoX, dirt circle track?

it's a "Le Mans" not a "La Mans"

S30 gutted and slutted with an L28ET turn up the boost and fuel pressure, free flowing intaks and exhaust and you've got a car that'll run a 13 flat, super cheap, easy to work on, lightweight, loads fo torque and a little thing we call traction

you want to make a civic do that it's gonna cost a lot more and take a lot mroe fab work, it doesn't make sence to build a teg when the same parts fit the lighter civic, less weight = faster

Yeah that word "teggy" is really popular among the ricer scene here in SoFla.

As so in SoCal... You'd spend less money on a "Project" if you'd go along with you first idea (from a different thread) with the full exhaust, intake etc. and actually do it yourself instead of having someone install it for you. This way your money goes to YOUR Z. You work on cars? I don't believe it. If you can't install an exhaust system on your own, how the hell are you gonna build a car?

I think you should get someone to pay attention to you in real life and quit creating threads that shout, "Someone pay attention to me." The more I read your posts the harder it is to believe that out of all those sperm cells that you were the fastest one.

You “want” a project car but you have to ask others what to get? You don’t really want one then – you want to have something that other people see as cool. When you see it you’ll know and you won't care what other people think. The sooner you figure out how to apply that to all aspects of your life the better off you'll be.

In any case, I really doubt that you’re serious or sincere about it. Otherwise you’d have already purchased it and be wrenching on it and maybe have had time to post a picture or two. Do you own a timing light? How about a set of flare nut wrenches? Multimeter? Engine hoist? Brake compressor? How about something as basic and essential as a torque wrench? Can you tell me what a line wrench is or how to do a leakdown test without looking either of them up on Google? You’re first project might be outfitting your garage.

On the outside chance that you are serious I’d suggest a 240. Easy to work on, cheap to pick up and just about everything that could be done to them has probably been done – meaning there’s always a blueprint to go by or maybe even someone to ask questions. You’ll learn a lot of things working on another rwd platform that will translate over to your 350 (and consequently some things you know about the 350 will apply to the 240) and you won’t have to waste time figuring out a rotary engine. Check with your local housing alliance/zoning ordinances to make sure that its ok to have some eyesore sitting in your driveway for an extended length of time - wouldn't be much fun to have a project car you really like only to have to have find someplace else to store and work on it.

A word to the wise – and to you too, if you end up getting an S13/14 and start posting threads like this up over in 240 Tech or 240 Gen chat you’re going to get lit up like Baghdad during Desert Storm.

come on richie, the guys got a point... i personally dont want to know every thought that crosses your mind. i mean, we both joined up at about the same time & youve got damn near 1000 posts to my 60 for christ sake! google searches & some internal thought process go a long way dude...

that aside, id go 240... RWD FTW... loved my S13

what I find most interesting is that the thought occours to you to get a project car, and instead of simply posing in say the 240 section and saying hey I'm thinking of getting a project sx, what to look for when buying, do's don't etc

instead, you put up a poll in the z33 section asking for opinions on what kind of project you should go with? most people would either buikd what they have, or what they find a deal on or if they have a specific project in mind they go looking for it, they don't ask strangers to vote on it

you really should avoid that poll button, it seldom works out in your favor

if you want to impress us stop posting and start doing! instead of asking silly questions how about you show us something you did on your own, you can ask questions all day and it shows how little you know and how unwilling you are to do research and learn for yourself, step away form the computer pick up a wrench and learn something the old fashioned way...... by doing it

I'm locking this thread to keep it from becoming a total flamefest
