I would like to know if anyone else has been hindered by this problem.

When I start the car the engines turns but it doesn't start. When I get lucky the car will fire on the second try but sometimes it takes me up to four tries to get the engine to start. I am dropping the car at the dealer on Wednesday, but I would like to have some idea if others have had this problem or something similar to this what was causing it? I already checked the plugs and wires and those are fine. I'm not getting any codes.

It is Versa SL with the Keyless system. Input on this as always will be greatly appreciated.

Yes, definately a fuel pump. In addition to the thread that EV posted a link to, you can search for "fuel pump" in post bodies and you'll find MANY results.

However, in the mean time, try this: If your car doesn't start, turn it off and back on, leaving the key in the on position for 5 or 10 seconds before turning it over again. The reason the car is not starting until several tries is because the pump is attempting to build up pressure, but you're blowing fuel through the engine without igniting it which can foul up your plugs and cat converter.

Yes, this is exactly how I have been able to start the car, by letting the pump build up some pressure and then the car will start. Thanks!

Took the car to my local dealer here in houston which was Tom Peacock and they replaced the gas pump at no charge. The service took 1 day. Thanks for all of your help.

I got a call from my dealer 2 days ago telling me that because of all the reported starting problems with the Versa, Nissan is going to be examining the fuel injection systems for clues. I've already had my fuel injection system replaced and I'm still having troubles but perhaps faulty parts were replaced wit faulty parts. Who knows......I'm really grasping at straws here. My problem goes beyond being hard to start at times, my car starts in safe mode.
