Hello, I am a new poster to this board and I thought I try out Nico because the maxima section looks full. I am from all the other Nissan boards as well.

Ok, So when I was at the gas station I was driving too, my check engine light came on. I went to go diagnose the code and it was a P1402. I went to autozone to see if they could look up more info on that code and they came up with this...

"EGR metering orifice restricted"

Autozone did not have a clue on what it was but at least they found me some info on the code than the internet could tell me. so Anyways...right than and there I thought, well the orifice tube may have some blockage or maybe I have a vacuum leak on my ERG valve. That is the only thing I can really think of.... Unless it is just a bad EGR valve. I looked around some sites again for this code and every single one just says "EGR system"

IS there anything I can do to see what this really is? OR would I have to go to Nissan for this?

Thanks....

I'm at work, so I'm very limited as to what I can find to help you. I'll get more info when I get home!

Welcome aboard!

Blockage was my first thought as well; perhaps some kind of buildup.Another possible cause is the metering orifice not getting proper voltage and sending a bad signal.

The next best thing for me to do is probably rip apart the EGR system when I get some more time on my hands and see what is up. The worst part about it is I still need to get the code cleared and I can't do that. I assume I would have to go to nissan anyway because Autozone will not do it either. I just hope it is a small vacuum leak or something easy. The good thing is though. The car is running fine it is just that light is getting to me and Gas is probably being more used up because the EGR is not recirculating much of the exhaust gases into the manifold.

Disconnect the battery overnight. That should easily reset the SES light. You could also reset the ECU yourself

^ good idea but I won't have any immobilizer issues will I? That is what someone told my on the .org a long time ago with Nissans.

And I don't really want to reset my Alarm settings. I don't think they will reset but just a thought.

I will give it a try though... Thanks!
