I’m getting old cause don’t have anything for pic storage to link these days. Don’t even know what people use these days since photobucket sucks.

It is the graphite color outside and black interior.

Hey congrats on the new ride - saw the pics on FB - I know they sometimes wholesale trade in's but I wonder if Modern will fix your M56 and try and sell it at the lot since it's so hard to find the V8 model. I had a Q70L as a loaner for a week while I had the oil jet/timing chain recall done. I pulled my car into Modern when my timing chains started acting up on the way home from work. It was a spur of the moment decision so didn't have an appointment and they didn't have any loaners at the time. The service advisor was driving the Q70L and she was kind enough to let me have her car for the duration. I thought that was pretty awesome, and I've been going there ever since. The back seat legroom was awesome. The automatic rear door and deck lid closure was pretty cool too. Anyway, glad you found something, and hope you enjoy your new ride! Maybe I'll see you around Clemmons sometime. My car is also Platinum Graphite, and of course you'll know it's me with the custom exhaust LOL

I’m taking most accessories off of it (all floor/trunk mats, window visors, k&n filters, etc) to sell them. So don’t think they are going to have it on the lot since they are letting me take all that stuff.

tlaspec, that's exactly how my engine was sounding until last month when it got louder. Now it's a full-on knock.
Reggie, did your start ticking all the time or only during cold at beginning?
TLAspec, I think there are 3 different sounds that we've discussed on this forum. First sound is the ticking - I've been told that it's a normal direct injection sound. Happens all the time and has been around since day one. The second sound is the cold start sound - It's a loud groan that sounds like a scooby doo ghost. After 10 seconds or so it goes away. The sound I hear in your video is actually two separate sounds. One is a ticking sound and the other is a knocking sound. The knocking is exactly how mine started sounding after the recall but is now much louder. If I were you I'd put your car in and have them take a look and let them know that the sound is concerning. Also mention that other Q70's/M56's do not sound like that. ( or they shouldn't)

To answer your specific question - the ticking happens all the time, and I think it's normal because I hear it on other direct injection cars. The knocking sound started after the recall and it's not normal at all.

Yeah I’m at modern right now working on deal for new ride.

M56 I’m good order is basically $10k trade in value, they are giving me that minus the labor cost to fix the engine.

I’ve dealt with modern for a long time they’ve always treated me well.
Will you get a chance to check out your M after they complete the work? I'd like to see if you think the repair brought your car back to spec. Did you get a 5.6 or 3.7? I didn't see you mention it.

Also, I'm old too. I use Flickr for pictures. It's easy to embed images into other sites and it's not too intrusive with ads.

Won’t get a chance to see it probably. New one is the 3.7L, hoping it’ll last longer than the 5.6L did.

I recommend IMGUR. Flickr is eh.

Here is the actual link to the image, however, it seems to be too big for the forum:

Your new car looks great. I was selfishly hoping you'd keep the car after they repaired it so that I could see if the damage could be repaired to within spec, and then see the long term effect of said repair. At this point there's no way to know if they will repair the motor or send it to the wrecker, or send it back to Japan for analysis. I understand that sometimes it's better to just move on and wish you the best with your new purchase.

Dealerships current plan is to wholesale the car. I know they had replaced the lifter piece and it ran ok without the CEL, but still needed to replace some of the cam related things an check the oil for metal, then get a new fuel pump for it.

It is sitting apart in their shop, I still have to go there today to get all the accessories off of it to sell.

Of the people who have had their 5.6 take a turd how was your driving ie aggressive, old guy, every once in a while drive it like you stole it?

Just curious if it is the guys who drive their cars aggressively all the time.

I do every once in a while but not very often.

The engine should be able to handle it but it would be interesting to see if constantly driving aggressive.

I rarely do it but maybe we should do a survey of 5.6 drivers.

I drive it like I stole it probably 20-25% of the time but I'm meticulous with maintenance. So far, other than a bad cat. converter, I've had zero issues.

I was about 20% aggressive with the throttle I’d say.

I think I drive about 10% aggressive and the rest is normality.

I’m really bummed out on how the Japanese car market isn’t as stellar as it once used to be. This stuff shouldn’t be happening specially after a recall update.

Sad very sad

I agree, Andy. The original Q45 motors were bullet proof. Still lots of those motors on the road with 200K -300K miles on them. I doubt the 5.6 will see those kinds of numbers. I should have never taken a chance on what was a new concept for Nissan, with the DI motors.
I've driven 20% aggressive for the past year or so because my wife is a scaredy cat. Most of my mileage is open road trips to Canada. I mostly drive 3 miles back and forth to the train station each day. I only put about 8k miles on this car per year.

Good luck with your sale by the way.

Did you have battery issues like me?

They don't turn the alternator till you drive 10 our more miles.

I might still my car sure to the issues that have happened to so many 5.6 owners.

Not happy with Infiniti these days.

Love the car hate the risk of the catastrophic engine failure.

Andy,

Yup, had similar battery issues same as a bunch of folks. I bought a Yellowtop first and it lasted a year then somewhat died, then I bought an XS battery, which is about the best you can get. It started strong but now it's failing, or maybe it too is not being charged properly. I believe that Infiniti underestimated all of the electronics in the car and the current draw is too much for the alternator. Good luck if you install an aftermarket amp.

My Red Sport has a beefier 170 amp alternator and less electronics, so go figure. Everyone who has had battery problems replaced the battery, but I doubt anyone upgraded their alternator. I bet if they did the charging issues would go away.

My apologies to Biggie for thread-jacking.

I had to purchase a battery charger that I need to hook up on a monthly basis.
Them not turning on the alternator till ten miles is just stupid. No one buys a V8 and worried about mpg within reason.

For the sticker price of $85k+\- they really could of done so much better. They did a lot great but some issues truly suck and shouldn’t be happening in this day and age.

Mine is a daily driver, mainly back and forth to work. Mostly highway and less city driving. Slightly aggressive driving pattern. I like to use the manual shift mode at least a couple of times each commute. The X-pipe and sport mufflers sound awesome if you use the sport shifting to hold the gear a little longer than if you are in automatic, but I don't red-line it. WOT's once in a while. Honestly, the custom exhaust and Uprev tune makes this car fun to drive.

I'm sorry to hear of the engine troubles but I plan on keeping my car for the long haul. The issues seem to be confined to the 2011 models so far, just curious if there are any 2012 and up years that are having engine problems.
