Here's a noob question for you guys:I was searching for the PS reservoir to check the fluid level the other day, but couldn't find it. The owner's manual didn't help. And I tried searching the forums, to no avail.

So, where is it? Or is the PS system in these cars not hydraulic?

Use a search engine and type in Versa Service Manual, they have some free ones you can download. That's how I got mine, they're in PDF format. File size is 61.4 MBs. It has everything you can think of when you need to work on your car.

The power steering is electrically assisted. I don't understand why so many people think it feels "weird," because it feels exactly the same as every hydraulically assisted car I've driven... the motor is located under the dash, and is bolted to the steering column. The system really works the same way hydraulic systems work, in principle. The motor only gives torque on an as-needed basis. The "weird" feeling might be due to the car's unusual geometry.

I appreciate the quick input from all of you.

As for 'weird steering feel', my family also has a 07 murano and its steering feels noticeably different than that of the versa. In the V I don't feel as connected to the car.

I'm not complaining though. The V hasn't given me any problems for my 60 mile commutes and consistently gave me 30+ mpg.

I'm curious about the power steering too. I realize it's electronic, but there's still a fluid in there right? Does it ever need changing? Or was my dealer blowing smoke up my a**?

There shouldn't be a fluid in there. The only thing I can think of would be lube. A lubed shaft is a happy shaft.

Ok Thanks. I was under the impression that it just had a electronic controlled mechanism rather than a belt driven pump, but there was still a fluid that transmits the power to the steering (in a "sealed" compartment like the CVT fluid).

That also means the dealer who sold it to me doesn't know much either. I wonder if they'll give me a refund for a service they couldn't possibly have done? (yea stupid me for getting talked into it)

I would raise hell if they gave you a service to your powersteering pump or anything related.

As far as it feeling different, it definately does. I can't explain it but It does. I feel less connected to the road and the wheel is too light. I wish there was a way to adjust that. I would like a little more resistance.

I know what some of you guys mean with that it feels different. It's very easy to turn which makes it feel light and that can be a good thing. Like it was said though, I felt more connected when driving my old Neon with good old power steering.

Considering they charged me for changing the power steering fluid last time, I'm going to raise some hell.

It's an '08 and pretty new. I didn't realize it was electronic steering until I tried to see how clean the fluid they just changed was...

Thanks for the answer.

Transmission flush is a pain when I had my 2007 versa, I would go to a non dealership shop and they would say sorry unable to check / flush the transmission/differential your car does not have a dipstick

I don't care why and I don't care that they do. They can complain as much as they want, I don't give a damn.
