i posted this in the technical forum. got 53 views over a week and no response

i searched for this, but no such luck...

I have a 92 hatch with a stock KA. the power steering pump is starting to seize and is starting to leak pretty badly. Is there any way i can disable or remove the pump until i can replace it?

yes, i do realize this will leave me without power steering...

any tips are appreciated...or a link to a walk-through

if i should be posting on a different forum, please let me know

Just remove the pump, work all the p/s fluid out of the rack, cap the ends so dirt doesn't get in and you have instant manuel steering.

you'd have to find a way to hold tension to the belt as this same belt also runs the water pump.

you do NOT want to remove all the fluid from the rack.It is required that there be some in there for lubrication purposes.

As far as the belt system goes, me and d!ck had been talking about getting a SOHC bracket, or one from the frontier so that the alternator and water pump share the belt.... but neither of us ever got to it. at the rate i'm working on my car.... i'll probably never getting around to testing this.

Other then that, ditch the pump, cap the ends.
