Just because I can and i dont think it could hurt, i will probably upgrade to a retop or yellowtop and upgrade my ground wires.
My question is that, can you replace the stock grounds with larger wire or do you have to add. One thread said that by replacing the grounds it would throw codes with the ecu?
I have the 2.5s and from what i have read, the wire from the alternator is easy to get to which is a perk.
If i can replace the stock wires, where are they located as well as how do i secure a larger wire to the alternator. I am planning to use some 4 gauge Kolossus Fleks Kable (the 100% copper stuff) and probably wrap the wire in some flex cover to further protect it.
well for upgraded power/ground, my suggestion would be to just go overkill and use 0 gauge... couldn't hurt, and you'll never need to upgrade again
yes, the 2.5 alternator is rght in front of the engine, so its easy to get to... simply add a ring terminal to your new power wire, remove the bolt holding the factory power wire onto the alternator, and then replace... the bolt (be sure to scape the metal on the ring terminal to ensure a good connection... sometimes, they add a thin layer of plastic film on the ring terminals to prevent corrosion... you want that gone!
as far as the ground, yes, if you look in the FSM. it shows that there is a sensor wire attached to the factory ground cable... there's no sense in removing it, just add your new ground onto the existing one... do the same with the power wire.... don't replace the factory wire, just add more wire in parallel!
