Let me just say that this tread (http://www.nicoclub.com/zerothread?id=87187) had peaked my interest and I'd like to know exactly what the scoop for the Power FC with the "ca18det" chip inside is.

I know for sure that the Apexi USA doesnt list the CA application on their website. So....what do you think the deal is with the handwritten "ca18det chip" (inside the Power FC box)??

Do you think these are cloned chips retrofitted into the box? Do you think they are special ordered from Apexi JP? Basically, do you think the chips are officially supported and produced by Apexi?...or are they some homebrew chip some Eprom tuner came up with to retrofit into boxes to sell on ebay?

Also...does the Power FC have a "turbo timer" function? Does it allow you to use a laptop instead of that hand held commander thing?

thanks,

-M

(ps. Something unrelated.............anyone have problems logging in to post and currently using either Netscape or Zone Alarm Pro??)

yes .. it has ca18det apprication from apexi japan. so there is no hacking and rechipping thing.. as long as they are real power fc.

no turbo timer functions.

you have to use the commander.

P.S there is a way to use the laptop.

I do have a software from my previous work.

I'll be able to tell everyone more about the Power FC more when I get my motor back. I've got one for the CA and that is how I intend to tune my car. As for your questions, T88lexus answered them.

I keep seeing those popping up on ebay and I'm tempted to buy one but I have to remind myself that my engine isn't in the car and wired up. Given that it uses the stock harness and sensors I want that 100% sorted before I go swapping ECUs.

Thats exactly what I'm going to do. After I get the motor back together, I'm going to use the Stock ECU to make sure everything is running correctly. Then I'm going to hook up the Power FC and let the fun begin!

The Apexi JP site doesn't list a CA application. I'm guessing these CA18 chips are special order? (or new old stock).

You guys see the Datalogit?? Allows the Power FC to hook up to a laptop to tune more indepth than just with the Commander. Theres a thread on FA about it.

I guess it spoofs the software that the Apexi dealers lease from Apexi....allowing you to not have to fool with that handheld.

theyre specially modified for the CA by AP Engineering, thats why it doesnt appear on the Apexi web site. so, yes they are in a way "special order" as you cant just get them from apexi. this is also why they are more expensive for the CA than they are for anything else..

it has better maps than a normal CA to begin with, but you have the ability to adjust them further to suit your needs. with the commander of course.

Although I haven't powered mine up yet, you are supposed to have full control of the computer. As Hank said, it DOES come with a base map that is better than the stock one for more power. Then using the commander, you can access the full computer and change all the parameters.
