I was thinking of powder coating the plenum. My question is do the throttle bodies need to be removed for this procedure? If so do the gaskets need to be replaced?

Yes, remove everything from the plenum. Powder coating requires spraying a powder (duh) on the metal. After that it is baked on at high temperatures. If you left the throttle bodies on, that would f*** up the butterflies.

When I powder coated my plenum, I replaced all of the gaskets (throttle bodies, lower plenum to upper plenum gasket, IACV, balance tube O-rings, etc). They are cheap and it is not worth all that work just to find out a gasket is shot.

You will also want to tape off all of the gasket surfaces during the powder coating. You will also save yourself a lot of frustration by plugging all of the bolt holes to prevent the threads from filling with powder coating.

Any quality shop will be able to handle this for you.

Make sure the inside of the plenum is clean prior to powdercoating. If there is oil residue in the plenum from the pvc's, it can come out during the heating process which will mess up the finish and adhesion of the powdercoating.

I spent over 40 hours sanding and grinding all the casting marks and those chunks you need to grind to remove the injectors without a plenum pull. Sanded it smooth too. When I got it coated I made sure to specify which faces and holes to cover. You can't really tape it off yourself because they dip in in an acid first to remove contaminents.

Thanks redwinterz

Oh. Wow. JUST NOW realized you were RHD. And yes, that looks awesome. Never been a fan of a red plenum, but yours looks pretty good to me.

I don't see a penny though....
