I have 01 i30, I travel alot and it broke down in a small town a few hundred miles from home. About a month ago it began running rough, specifically it would not run very well over 3k RPM and jerked and hesitated especially when cold. While annoying it never left me stranded and I hoped it would make it until I got home and could take it to a mechanic I trust. Of course it made it to the trip home. It now wont go much over 2k rpm and do to so you really have to persuade it by lightly giving it gas and it wont go much over 20 miles per hour.

Its now at this mechanic and he has ruled out exaust problems, fuel pump/filter problems. It seems like it could be the MAF but the guy wants to test it before he replaces it, Is there any way to do this, or should I just replace it and try to get on the road.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

have him check the wires going into the maf. sometimes those have a tendency to come loose. if those are fine, replace it and be on your way
