Positive battery cable question

On the positive battery cable, there are two leads. One goes directly to the starter and the other goes to the main fuse link in the box right next to the battery. Is this correct? When I follow the cable down, it seems to go into the fender well. I've looked at the FSM wiring diagram but want to be certain. Thank you
