On my 1997 Pathfinder I occasionally get a pop/click noise when braking mainly at lower speeds. When it does occur its only as soon as the brake it applied and once.

I’m assuming it’s the brake hardware?

I do have new Powerstop rotors (drilled and slotted) and pads. I believe ceramic or ceramic and some other material mixed. Had installed this last spring when I did wheel bearings.

And I did check back pre load on wheel bearings, no play whatsoever. In addition, cv joints are fine. These were replaced a few years back. Calipers were replaced several years ago, but I don’t see how it could directly make the noise unless I’m wrong.

Again, nothing suspension related like over rough terrain, but only as soon as the brake is applied a pop noise occasionally.

Thinking about installing a different set of pads and hardware, preferably Akebono.

What brand of wheel bearings did you end up installing? Did you press in matching inner and outer bearing cups? post6823469.html?hilit=bearings#p6823469 This reads like a repeat issue when the last time you checked the new bearings and found them to be loose. post6830100.html?hilit=brakes#p6830100

Timken bearings I installed. Inner and outer with new races.

I did find a very small play at the time of that post and after pre loading, loosening, and retorque, it solved the play. But noise still occurred at times.

The noise is not rotational per se like how an axle would make a snapping noise when turned and rolling. It seems to be directly related to the brake application on occasion and as soon as it’s applied at a very slow soled. Can be a very light application of brakes to make the pop/snap noise once.

It’s hard to tell which side the noise is coming from.

I'd only be guessing, thinking it might be a prematurely worn out individual roller or more in a bearing from being too loose during its post-installation infancy last year or it could also be weak or poorly fitting rattle-springs on the pads as Vstar sort of suggested back then.

I’ll start with the springs first. Like I said before it’s not even a firm pressure applied to the brakes to make the noise. I can rest my foot very lightly on it and I can replicate the noise.

And not all the time.
