Has anybody ever polished a windshield? When that rock hit me this morning, it just left like a half square inch scraped place. Isn't deep at all. I would think it should polish out pretty easy. Suggestions?

I have been looking into this myself, but from what I can find it is a bit risky......results vary from nothing, to good , to shattered glass. If it isn't in your line of site, I would just let it go. If it bothers you just replace it.

Go here http://www.eastwood.com/ and type "glass polish" into the search. I've never used any of these products personally, but they're the only ones I've ever heard about that are specifically designed for this exact purpose. Good luck!

Eastwood's product is what I was looking at.
Search other forums for feedback on the product.
There is a youtube made by the Truck's show that makes it look toooo ez.
If you find something that works, please let me know!

The 2 surfaces (front & back) must stay parallel to one another or you will see some "wiggles" (think OLD house glass). If the area is small enough and you maintain a fairly consistent pressure, you may be able to diminish the scratch enough without waving the lens.

Sure! He doesn't do auto glass, but he has been in the business forever and knows auto glass.

use Cerium Oxide powder with Glass Polishing Pad with orbiter at 1500 rpm but do cover where you don't want cerium oxide /water paste endup. Will clean you small pits and scratches in the glass.

Update.

OK, I know this sounds crazy, but we have had rain for the first time in forever the last 2 days. I had noticed that the more my wipers went, the less that spot on my windshield showed up. Yesterday by the time I got home, it was nearly gone! I called my brother and asked him if he had ever heard of a self healing windshield. He said I probably just have a rough spot and it was filled with chalk from the rock. The wipers had probably washed the chalk out of the rough place.

:)

You can still see a small imperfection, but it isn't in the line of vison for me or my occational passenger. I'm going to leave it alone.

Now if the place on the hood would heal itself. :squint:
