hello =)i'm stumped so i came here in the hopes that someone could help me(1985 300zx turbo)

since i bought this car i have changed out the head gaskets, timing belt, clutch, freeze out plugs, plugs wires dist cap, rotor. inspected the cylinder head, rocker arms and shaft, lifters, valves, springs, etc (also slapped in a custom "spacer" between the left bank's camsprocket and cam. funny story. i start it up for the first time.... after i changed out the head gasket, filled it up with coolant and found out a freeze out plug is out in the back, then to find out the clutch is gone.. well when i go to start it, it wont stay running. eventually heard a loud ticking from the left bank. i stripped it back down and turned the crank by hand and the left timing sprocket swings around on the compression stroke!!!! the lip that the sprocket rides on was gone.) I prayed for no bent valves..

anyway... it runs fine now..... except for this exceptionally high idle. with the IAC (sp?) disconected it runs around 14. it stays around 17-18 with it on. i took the whole FICD assembly apart and cleaned it up. no good. checked the resistance, and they are a little above spec, but not horrible (.5 ohm difference) i have replaced and checked every vaccum line on the car and they arent the problem. also made sure the large lines from and to the turbo were good.

and if thats not enough, after about a minute of running it starts smoking from the turbo. its burning oil pretty bad. i took the valve covers off thinking they were the culprit but 2.5 hours later i find out that i was mistaken. it seemed to be coming from the oil line from the block to the turbo. so i replaced the gasket (which is freaking hard) and made sure the mating surfaces were clean. torqued to 16~ ft./lbs and it still leaks. the other side likes to smoke out the EGR tube that attatches to the manifold... i tried tightening it but it doesnt budge... but that doesnt explain the smoke right? anyway... im at my wits end! does anybody have some insight to my conundrum? anything would be greatly appreceated thanks =)

check the tb, a lot of times peopel who don't knwo better adjust the idle at the tb, if it's cracked open that explains your high idle

just an theory, you seem to have hit all the other bases, I'd think you'd have foudn a vac leak and adjusted your ficv and aiv correctly

the TB is ok, it idles down to 8~ when i disconnect the vaccum line from the IAC/ FICD assembly, so im taking it apart and checking everything again... the FSM doesnt have the section for emission controls, etc. i took the large "jet" out of the assembly and cleaned it. i counted the number of turns and marked it to be able to put it back in how it was, but it looks like that was wrong to begin with or something.. besides turning it one turn at a time and slapping it together, how can i adjust it?

thanks again =)

ok so i adjusted the screw inside, and with the idle up solenoid, and tps disconnected it will idle at 800~ untill i hit the gas. what would cause that?
