Please Help??????

Ok guys, I have a 84 pickup, 5 spd, 4x4 and the trans crapped out. I could really use some help, its a short tail 71c and I was wondering if you guys had a list of what other dats shared this trans. Thanks alot much guys, I really appreciate it.

I'll try and take a look into this. But try and search for trans codes on 620's etc. If the codes match you're good. The problem is that I am almost certain that the 720 didn't share a trans with any other models.

Thats what I was afraid of, I have searched everywhere but it seems like the only trans that may work is the early pathfinder but thats no easier to find then the 720. Do you know if the 720 2wd trans is short tail also. I wouldn't object to a 4 spd if you know of one that may work. Thanks again.

The 2wd trans can be found short tail. I'm not sure it would hook up to the 4WD setup, though. Not really sure how that whole deal works. If you do find one and can make it work, though.. it is a 5 speed!

being that my 84 has a hang behind tcase i am sure yours is prolly the same i went to a salvage yard and they say 81-85 4x4 trucks will work , neeed to research that to be sure but i lucked out and every thing bolted up fine , if its a hang behind wouldn't a 2wd transmission work since the tcase does not connect to it ???? any one ??

Just depends on if they are the same size or not.
