So I gotta 85 Nissan 720 2.4 it runs but the exhaust coil is not firing. I have switched coils so I know it can fire. Test light shows power on negative side like it should but does no flicker (fire) at idel or high rpm. Is this ignition coil pickup coil or what? Anyone have experience in this ignition? I don't know much about it

take off the cap and rotor inspect the connections at the module, one of the wires from the module is responsible for the exhaust coil, prolly a bad connection or wire from the module, or a bad module. I'd make sure its not the wire before I go replacing the module though its 170 bucks yikes!

um should be 2 min 4 if the coils are grounded through the dizzy. I don't remember right off the top of my head if they are or not. but yeah should be an exhaust wire and an ignition wire for triggers

i had same problem 1 coil not firing , replaced coil , still wouldn't fire :bs: so i simply ran some heavy gauge wire from the top neg, positive post on top of the firing coil and ran those wires to the top of the dead coils post , took the factory wires and tied them up and taped them they were getting no power any way , after that both coils fire fine , i have not researched this fix to see if i am going to screw somthing up later on down the road but F-IT cause if any problem do happen it will be in the dizzy or the icm or coils and there was already a problem

icm has 3-4 wires depending upon year, but make sure your #1 fuse is good first as it runs one of your coils! you can also test icm (or have it tested at an autozone or the like for free)if you have 4 wires to the inside of dizzy then its 1 ignition, 1 exaust, 1 neutral, 1 condenser... could likely be the problem, also have your changed cap & rotor? very good idea if you havent.

you do NOT want to re-route your coils (wire then together or direct wire) as this can damage your whole system/motor, the ignition and exhaust are timed differently and setting them off at the same time can wreck your ride!!!! to see this remove your cap, note that the rotors contacts are timed 3 off from each other... they are not supposed to fire at the same time or you'll have #1 & #3 firing at the same time, as ignition stroke... best to check fuses & relays then check icm & coils, replace/repair as needed

I had my Z20 coils wired on the same lead (+) and did not have any problems. The rotor ensures that the exhaust plugs fire before the intake. If you have the ECM wiring them on the same lead may be a problem as the ECM shuts down the intake plugs to give full advance under full throttle.
