Greetings teammcw,

I replied to this in another thread yet wanted to state that once you get your hands on the harness/connector you will most likely see how difficult your suggestion would be (if possible at all - I was hoping I could at first as well). It has been a while now since I performed this task yet I do remember thinking you could not get the connector apart and/or remove the wire/terminal ends (the small round female tube end that slides over the male pin end in the head unit) out of the connector without ruining it. Most of the new, very small connectors are a "press in" cannon-plug style. As in once you insert the wire/female terminal within the connector, it locks in with "barbs" much like a fish hook etc.. - Some larger connectors/cannon-plugs allow you to access the barbs and remove the terminal, which would be great. Yet once you have it out, in the case of this mod, you would need something to go back in that connector to make a solid/safe connection with the pins on the head unit. It's the head unit pins that need to be grounded/switched etc..

Bummer - I know..

As KJSmitty said, there is no way you could pull the wires out of the harness without damaging either the wire or the harness. It is impossible to do. The only thing you could do is find two harnesses to match the two in the vehicle, bascially you would have to wire your own plug'n'play setup. It would take a little time and some fine detail, but if you had the matching wiring harnesses you could do it, I don't know that it would be worth the time and effort though.

Sounds like a challenge

I have to do a lot of rewiring of various equipment at times, so I have different tools and ways (and patience, even if I have to make tools to get it done). I've sometimes had to leave things apart for weeks until I figure out what to do.

I generally make sure all work I do leaves any factory warranty intact, so I will be definitely trying on this, even if it means leaving the insides apart for a while.

I also checked over on the myg37 to see that they've been able to browse the file structure on the hard drive (something I posted last year, but haven't got around to yet). When I take apart the system to do this, I will be going for that as well and will see what I can gather. Who knows, it might be possible to reconfigure things so that rewiring isn't necessary.

KJSmitty,

I am planning to perform the same mod as you did. I have an 09 LE with NAV and have wired my INIVISION aftermarket headrest DVD unit in the back to the AUX input. I am performing this MOD so that my wife can watch TV in the front while I am driving. You posted some GREAT pictures showing how to remove the front panels in order to expose the A/V harness to snip the wires. I would also like to add a switch where the empty button is near the VDC switch. Do you have any pictures illustrating what panels to remove and how and in what order to wire this switch properly and install the button? While I am a software engineer, I am a real amateur when it comes to this stuff. I ordered a pre-wired switch from Shane at Tintmasters ([email protected]). Any additional assistance (photo wise or instruction wise) you could provide would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Greetings MoEggman,

I'll admit I didn't take any pictures of the actual switch install..

To get at the switch panel I remember popping off the lower panel below the steering column, then popping out the switch holder-as applicable, to remove the switch "blank" so I could manipulate it as desired.

Basically once I had the "blank" out I used my dremel like grinder to fabricate an opening that my specific switch would pop into etc.

I did not use the relay(s) and/or switch from Shane thus do not have any experience with that product.

Mr. Timmbo (forum moderator) will probably chime in with assistance, as I believe he does have experience with the switch from Shane (sorry if i'm wrong Timmbo :-)).

Above all, download the 09 Mo tech manual from this site and study the sections regarding the wiring, panel removal etc. All of the panels that have to be removed are straight forward removals with very little issue in regards to difficulty etc.. The manual is very good at describing and illustrating where all of the panel clips/attachment points are.

Let me know if I can assist further - possibly after you receive your switch and we can discuss it's form/function/connection etc.

Cheers

I have been looking for an answer to another question but along the way Ii did see this website and these products should help you out

http://www.headrestvideo.com/v....html

I was wondering if anyone could help me out with the following

I just got the 2009 murano sl awd w/nav and was wondering if i could watch a dvd through the nav screen.

I tried to do it with a portable dvd player using the auxillary outputs and with the car in park and handbrake on the best I could get was sound. The sreen did resemble something that looked like what it was supposed to be but was jumping all over the place. Is the murano equipped to this on my model or is it just broken...Any help would be great.

Above you mentioned audio outputs?

Did you use the audio/video "inputs" on the back of the center console under the flap??

Anyway, yes - with parking brake on and shift lever in park you should be able to scroll through the video/audio inputs via the "AUX" button and watch from your connected source.

You sure you selected the video source and had it hooked up correctly?

Double check.

I DID CONNECT ALL THREE WHITE RED AND YELLOW TO THE PORT BEHIND THE CONSOLE. WHILE SCROLLING THROUGH THE INPUTS VIA THE AUXILLARY BUTTON I CAME ON THE SCREEN THAT SHOULD SHOW VIDEO AND IT RESEMBLED THE MOVIE BUT WAS UNVIEWABLE. I WAS WONDERING IF IT IS A CASE OF THE CAR NOT HAVING THAT ABILITY OR IT BEING FAULTY.THE OWNERS MANUAL IS NOT VERY CLEAR ON THE SUBJECT AND THE SPECIALIST AT THE NISSAN 1-800#,I AM NOT COMPLETELY SURE HE KNOWS WHAT A MURANO IS.

Well,

That basically leaves you with two/three possible issues:

1. Something wrong with your Mo.2. Something wrong with your source/DVD player.3. Something wrong with your audio/video cables.

Bottom line, it should work as advertised in your SL w/nav as it does in the other models etc.

Hmmm, have you tried your DVD and cables on another display device lately? Do you have another or friends DVD/source etc that you could try in your SL? If your dealer was nearby I would ask to try your DVD in another Mo as well to help narrow it down.

Good luck

KJ is 100% correct, issue with one of the three. Good luck!

So i basically cut the two wires that I assume are for the P-gear and the foot brake...and then just ground the two wires for the system to work during driving?

Also, wouldnt it be perfect if instead of the indash 6 CD player, there was an exact unit that had a 6disc-dvd player where we could just directly replace. Im thinking of installing a dvd player in the glove compartment but seems like a hassle to change the disc sometimes. Installing it in the dash would be be a problem too cuz we still have the AC unit there and would need to find a dash kit. Anyone find an easy and clean solution yet?

For the most part, yes..........but I would not assume, I would consult the service manual.

Timmbo and KJSmitty,I am about to attempt this mod because i want my wife to enjoy movies on long trips, but i have a few questions before trying. Would using this method make the system think that the car is not moving while the video is on? would that mean that the mileage reading would be incorrect and will therfore mess up all my maintenance reminders? becasue i read on this website that it may if you use the technology from this site:http://www.kptechnologies.com/products.php#/6is that the same technology you will be using for bypassing the VSS speed sensor?

Teammcw, you mentioned you were going to try to do this while preventing the warranty to be void, have you been successful? is it possible to buy the exact complete same harness so that when you take your car for warranty you can just replace the modified one with the new harness end-to-end?

Thanks for any support

Regards,Tonchy

IS THERE ANYONE OUT THERE (OR SOMEONE YOU CAN RECOMMEND) IN THE VA, MD OR DC AREA THAT COULD ASSISTANT ME WITH THIS MODIFICATION?

I live in Northern Virginia and purchased a switch from Shane, but wanted to know if anyone could provide some assistance with this type of MOD.

Thanks.

First off, welcome to the Murano Forum, the staff here at NICOclub is thrilled to have you as another member.

NO, I don't believe the mod affects your MPG ratings or your maintenance reminders. I will double check for you tomorrow though.

As far as your warranty being void, I have yet to hear of any such case. I have completed this mod on 3 of my own vehicles, and I never had an issue. The only real way to do this mod without cutting the two wires is to basically purchase the 2 matching wiring harnesses, and wiring them, and basically building a "plug and play" type harness from scratch. Does that make sense? Let me know if you have anymore questions!

CONFIRMED! The "mod" does NOT affect the MPG, or your maintenance schedule. The only thing I can find that changes when you flip the switch is that the SSV (speed sensitive volume) does not function, but who cares when you are watching the movie. Once you flip the switch back to normal, things are all good.

So has anyone done this with their 2010 LE with NAV model? A pic by pic walk through would be wonderful

I will attempt this on my 2010 LE with navigation. does anyone have a link for the 2010 MO service manual i only found the ones for the 2009 on the forum.

Timmbo so you have tried having the switch on for a long time and your odometer reading and maintenance schedule was still accurate? that is very good news.

another thing that worries me is if you will still get directions from your nav system in the background like when you are listening to music. anybody has done this on a model with navigation?

thanks for the help

adubravcic - I see that you are in Potomac, MD - I am now in Woodbridge, VA - I work in Arlington, VA. I have all the parts and want to do this MOD on 2009 LE Murano. If you are successful, would you mind giving me a hand? I could come to you. I have never done a MOD like this on my car. Let me know. What to schedule a date and do both cars together??? Let me know.

Thanks.

Our LE is a non-navi yet from what I understand, while watching video - IE mod switch on, your Navi will be in "time-out." So no, it will not continue to give you directions. That is why the switch is important for you Navi owners, so you can switch it off to have your navi "catch up" and give you data when needed etc.

Cheers

Just a quick reminder, this mod is extremely simplified by purchasing a relay pack that is pre-wired from Shane at Tintmasters, his e-mail is: [email protected]

I believe he is charging $50 for the wired relay pack with excellent instructions. This is method I personally used on my Armada.

It turns out the wiring harness on the Nissan dual headrest DVDs was bad. After dealer replaced the harness the audio came through just fine.
