Most VPC's I've seen recently are more than a complete SDS system...

Once you figure in install and tuning, its not so anymore, but you have a standalone...

The new pistions will come with new rings. You'll still need to gap them though.

The VPC, despite it's price tag and coolness is still just a piggyback. It continues to use the factory sensors and cheats the stock settings just like an SAFC. I have one on the ex's 180 and it is cool. I got it for like $200.00 though, I wouldn't buy one new, you can get a nice standalone, a real standalone, for half-again the cost of the VPC.

Does HKS even produce/support the VPC anymore? ...old-*** 1990's gadgetry...

The fun thing about a standalone is that if you're your own tuner, you are now responsible for the life of your motor. And if you succeed and tune the car to sweetness, you get all the accolades. Big learning curve, but well and worth every $$$ I've spent on them.
