Actually it's sitting in my shop. I'm going to tlak to Brice this week about getting on the dyno later this week. So it might be there late this week or weekend. I'll keep you posted!

Hey Ken, this is off topic a bit (im sorry), but I was wondering if you have had a chance to read about the fully autonomous Audi a Stanford team is trying to send up the mountain/how you feel about it since you are the only person I know to have competed in the PPIHC (only person I can readily communicate with). If you get a chance shoot me an email as I'd love to hear your thoughts, and don't want to clutter up this awesome build thread. Sorry again for the off topic-ness, and continue posting about Kenno's awesome 2010 PPIHC rally car everyone!!!

Not really off topic! This is, after all, a Pikes Peak car thread.

I haven't seen the story you are referring to, but as far as I'm concerned, anything that brings the hill climb some good press is alright with me.

By the way, the car will be on the dyno at Alamo Autosports Sunday. If you're in the area stop by for a visit. The balancer is now on and with that and the exhaust leaks all fixed we're anxious to see what improvements we can see. Then Brice will be stepping up the boost. Probably just pushing to 400hp beore doing more road testing.

Bye.

Just got the ATI Damper on and fired the car...Holy cow! What a huge difference! The engine is SO much smoother. Idles smooth and revs out much smoother...no funny resonance in teh mid range like before.

ATI isn't even a sponsor, but I'm telling you, if you're considering this...DO IT!! If you're not, you should be!

Very happy.

I'll post dyno results from Alamo Tomorrow!

Hi Everyone.

By now all of you know about the setback and that we have some repairs to make. Here are the details of those plans:

We laid out the design for the new front and transported the car down to the Fatman Shop in Lancaster where surgery has begun. We will have a new front frame that will be tied into the roll cage and the strut towers. Should stiffen things up a bit. We are eliminating the the radiator core support and most of the stock structure in front of the firewall. Also, the front wheel wells will be aluminum to save weight. There will be a new sub structure that will support the radiater that will be aluminum tube, as will the sub structure that will support the new, larger intercooler. They will be made in two sections: the front structure will allow just the IC and front bumper to be removed, leaving the radiator and headlights in the second structure. A few bolts more and we can remove the radiator/fans and headlights. That's the plan. We'll see how it comes together.

Good News! The car made it to the Fatman Garage without incident. It stayed on the trailer for the entire ride.

I head back to El Paso Monday for work, so Steve (Fatman) will be taking plenty of pictures for me to post with updates of the new front end construction.

Anticipated timeline for construction is 4-6 weeks.

Stay tuned...Stay hard.

We're making good progress on the new front chassis for the Pikes Peak 240. The front end has been scrapped and the new frame is coming together really well. Steve's expertise is really coming through and the new frame is actually straighter and more square than it was before the accident. Hopefully this will translate into a car that is easier to sort out.At this rate we should have the car back on the dyno and on the track for testing in just a few short weeks.

Hi,

Getting a good bit of the new electrical system worked out. Getting rid of the spaghetti factory that was my electrical system and completely driving me nuts. It was on purpose...everything out and available for that first year so we could see if there were going to be issues and have ready access to everything in the system to make changes/repairs.

Going to more of a modular system. stripped down and compact and all neatly tucked behind the center stack.

There we are. I've also finished work on the ECU harness. There was allot of dead weight on there, as well.

bye.

Awesome work on the car, I may be out at the race this year. I am building a rally car, slightly less insane, with Flat Black Ian. your fuse panel and body reinforcements look really good.

Question: Do you run, or have you considered, a switchable map to retain some of your power at the higher elevation.

Thanks! We have considered going with a switchable map. Last year we didn't get the car done in time to get it put together. We'll take a look at it this year. Part of the problem is the altitude. Thin air makes it easy to overspin the turbo. So we're weighing hte benefit of adding a few pounds of boost versus getting it dialed in so we don't have issues near the summit.

Making more headway on the new front frame. Here you can really see how the new strut tower bracing is going to work. It's already very stiff, and will be even more so when it all gets skinned. Should have the passenger side finished up Friday night and then Saturday we'll get the radiator/headlight subframe started, as well as the IC/bumper frame (two separate frames so the front end is modular).

Also, here's a couple shots of the new front bumper. This thing is going to give the car and entirely different look. And it should provide a nice big opening for the new, larger IC.

We have about another week of work to get the new front completed and then it will be back to my shop where I will finish the new electrical system and a few other details. Our goal now is to have the car back on the dyno at Alamo Autosports the first weekend in March.

We lost five full days including last weekend due to the snow storm in North Texas which left the shop without power. Got back at it mid week and made good progress through the weekend.

Got the new chassis completed and tied into the roll cage, finished up the strut towers and their bracing and got the aluminum fender wells in place. The tin work isn't the prettiest, but it will get the job done for this year.

We began work on the front sub frames that will support the radiator and intercooler and expect to have them completed by this weekend. Small subframes will be fabricated that will help support the oil cooler and filters, as well as provide additional support for the front bumper and splitter. When completed they will attach to the two outside upper frame rails and the main frame rails.

Here's some photos:

More updates will follow shortly. Stay tuned.

Here's a few snaps of the new radiator support sub frame. It attaches using four bolts screwed into threaded bungs welded into the frame. The IC support will attach to four threaded bungs in the ends of the radiator support. This way they are two separate structures that can be repaired/replaced independently. The oil cooler and filters will be on their own sub structure off to the side of the radiator support and will also have some bumper support built in.

the pictures:

Without the IC attachments installed:

These are the IC attachments points. The IC frame will be built off of these bolt on "cups":

Got the car back to my garage a few days early due to a busted TIG welder. While the Miller is in the shop I decided to drag the car home and get other work done. Time to get the new electrical system in place. Lots of work, basically re-engineering the system from scratch. I think I eliminated about 10 to 20 pounds of wire from the system. I should have it wrapped up tomorrow. Then the car goes back down to Fatman South on Saturday for some tweaking of the Radiator support and fabrication of the bumper and splitter support system. Wish I had the Forgelines in the right size. I like the way they look.

Some Photos for you:

There it is. Hopefully I'll have a running car next week. Plan to have it on the next weekend, and on the track shortly after.

Bye.

this is turning into a epic build. Cant wait to see it climb again. You should run it through some auto-x to put her through her paces.

The TIG is a Miller. The PLASMA CUTTER is harbor freight. And it works really well.

Getting a bit ore done. Had to re-work the tin up front. With the new frame things are a bit tight so I needed to make the inner panels removable. Now I can just pop out the inner fenderwells to access the area below the intake.

We go back on the dyno over at Alamo Autosports this weekend. If you feel like dropping by, please do. We are really hoping to hit our goal of 425-450hp. With the new charge pipe path, turbine housing and other changes we're feeling pretty good about it.

Also, got a deal done with Enkei and I'm going over to pick up the new wheels tomorrow. I'll post a few pictures when I get my grubby hands on them. I'm not even sure which wheel they gave us. I heard rumors that they were thinking about the NT03+M, but I'm not sure. I'll find out tomorrow!

A few pictures for you:

Wilwood and Motul. Happy.

I'll post pictures of the new wheels tomorrow.

bye.
