I'm picking up a leftover '08 Altima 3.5SE Coupe tomorrow (it has 7 miles on it and has been sitting in the dealer's showroom window) for a great price and I have a question about suspension.

I come from the German car scene (trading in a GTI for the Altima) and I'm looking at doing a few mods, specifically wheels, audio, and suspension. Wheels and audio I have covered, but as far as suspension goes it looks like a lot of people just do a set of springs and call it a day. In fact, I haven't even seen a set of aftermarket dampers other than what would be included with coilovers. I've always run matched sets of springs and dampers (cup kits) on my past cars and have heard that swapping springs only will actually lead to WORSE handling over time as the stock dampers aren't set up to work properly with the shorter spring leading to drastically reduced lifespan. Is that not the case with Japanese cars? Are the stock dampers able to handle the added stress of the shorter spring? Sorry for the noob question - I hope to learn a lot here.

Welcome to the club Erick.S!

http://forums.altimas.org/zeromain thats the link you should bookmark!

All the info here is in its proper section (for the most part)... this type of discussion is usually in the "Suspension and wheels" Section....

The search button works too, and we are always here to help you out! (just try and post in the right section if you can, if you arent sure, dont worry theres no beatings issued!)

The difference in the springs is if they are progressive rate or not, the eibach prokit is progressive, so it shouldnt wear on the shocks adversely.

If you are interested in a coilover, BC racing has just released their coilover kit for the AC.

Thanks for the info - I'll most likely hold off on suspension until a "matched set" hits the market.

I'm buying from Wilson Nissan in Torrington - they seem like a really great dealership. No hassles, no pressure, down to earth people. We'll see how the transaction goes tomorrow. Where did you buy from?

Good to hear. Let us know how you make out.

I bought from Bruce Bennett in Wilton. I've bought several cars from them and always had a nice experience.
