Ordered the 1741 Pertronix kit, but don't see the 320 listed as an application in their catalog... Am I gonna be able to use this?

I picked one up too and a spare distributor. It is going to take some "southern engineering"  to get it to work. If anyone has done this it would be great if you could post some pictures and tell us how you did it. Ken

Ken -

I'm awaiting a call back from Paul at Pertronix, he's going to give me the scoop.  Once I have the info, I'll do a full writeup for you guys on the installation (with pics).

How close is the 320 to the 520 distro?  I'm using the module I took out of my roadster and installed it in the 520.  Had to modify yhe bottom plate for proper timing.

Depends on which distributor you have on your E1.  These were the two distributors used on the early E1.  I was never able to find a Pertronix kit for it.  Someone told be to look into the MG applications because these are basically copies of an MG distributor but I changed the engine out to the J16 before I could confirm that.

This is the distributor on later E1 and J13-15-16s.  The can be converted to Pertronix with the 1741 kit.  Some, in fact, most I've seen have an upright distributor cap like mine does.  Note the difference in the mounting plate, rotor, etc. compared to the above pics.  I'm working on converting mine to a A series E12-80 electronic distributor.  Mike has a nice write up on this site about converting to a L series E12-80 distributor but I'm not sure that would work on the earlier E1.

Well, official word from Pertronix is....

"Dunno."

They weren't able to locate info on the distributor that's supposedly in the truck (Hitachi D406-01) but did indicate that swapping to a newer distributor that accepts kit #1741 will work - they make a 1741-P (positive ground) model that accomodates our reversed polarity system.

Now, the question is, what dizzy can I swap into my NL320?
