First off my truck has the 2.4L 4 cyl motor. I want to add a performance cat back exhaust or have one done at a muffler shop. Who sells one? Or if I have a exhaust shop do it, what size tubing should I run 2", 2 1/4" or 2 1/2", and what what mufflers sound good.

I was going to do a full exhaust but changed my mind when the idea of a turbo popped into the furthest part of the back of my mind. I would have a shop bend you a 2.25" cat-back. Now this is just me but I went a step further to find a shop who could mandrel bend stainless pipe. I have everything designed on paper, just waiting for some extra cash. I am going to go with a Magnaflow # 13265. Check out the dimensions on that can and see what you think.

Mandrel is over kill for stock 4 cylinder considering the cost, but if you plan on doing many mods down the road go for it. Just depends on your budget. I have seen guys with built motors not gain 1 hp between regular and mandrel bent pipes. In theory that is a perfect flowing system but in the real world it is over kill on 99.9 % of road vehicles. Most never run to the peak of performance to take advantage of it. Not slamming anyone who wants them, but why pay for stuff that is basically useless. Like the 2 foot wing on a honda, that thing cannot go fast enough to generate enough wind to actually use the wing for what it is meant for LOL but hey that never stopped folks from buying them. It is just me but if it does not make an improvement in the real world performance or comfort or safety, why waste the cash. On stock 4 cyl any decent cat back is fine, you will not see or feel any performance increase by a exhaust system alone. Check the magazines, not since the old days of V8's choked by restrictive exhausts has it alone done much at all.

I think what Rev is trying to say is that HE wants the stainless mandrel bent pipe. If not for performance just for looks. I would want the stainless mandrel because it looks better than the regular bent. It is all a matter of what one person wants over what other people think is worth the money. For those out there that don't know, yes on a small engine, performance wise, it does not make much of a differance, but if want it to look SO DAMN GOOD go with stainless mandrel bent pipe. Hell its only money.

I know what he was saying just letting the guy asking know that it is not needed for good performance on a stock truck. because he was asking, I assume he does not know. That is why I put in the first line UNLESS you are going to mod it down the road. Just trying to give clear info on what it will and will not do for him. That is all, I know REV knows that , just wanted to make sure the original poster knew it also.

Also I figure if you are going to tear into it why not go with the best, it not only looks good and has no crush to it, it will last a long time too (maybe forever on my truck since it sees no road salt). I have a habit of going beyond the basics when I upgrade things. But as both you guys stated, it's not needed, just something I would do on my own truck.

Ok, next question 2" or 2.25" for the exhaust tubing?

If staying stock on the motor either one is fine but go with the larger in case you decide to modify the truck later.

Just making sure, cause when I used to own vws with 4 cyls, i used to run 2.25". I do plan on doing some performance mods later, but since I would like to do the exhaust system first, just wanted to make sure 2.25" would be ok for the motor.

2.25 leaves you plenty of room for mods so do that.

If you live in CA you could get away with aluminized steel pipe for the exhaust. It's in the road salt states that aluminized steel sucks.
