ask for John...He knows his sh*t....i would and plan to definately invest in this when i get the motor to where i want it...not including the core charge your looking @ $3500 shipped and thats not installed either...if your only doing light mods then all you need for your transmission is to upgrade the valve bodies and any decent transmission shop can do that...if youre planning on doing it big this is definately the way....

Looks like if you want to put that transmission in the J, then you're going to look @ some major fabrication work. That transmission looks like it was meant for the G35. I'm going to do more research on it, though, just to make sure.

If you have transmission problems, then I suggest getting it rebuilt. The J's have a unique type of transmission, & I don't think that you can just "drop in" an aftermarket one like you can in a Honda or the more tuner-friendly imports.

While we're on the subject on transmissions, is it possible to "bump shift" a J? I was told that it was, but I had a bad experience with bump shifting. I lost a gear. (This was in my ol' Cougar that I had before the Honda.) I can bump shift in my Civic with no problem, but I wonder if the J is the same way.

There was someone (some years ago) on this forum who had a level ten transmission in his J. He loved it!

-- ....Transmitting..... So are you sending those ssb or ham, maybe via satelite? *snicker*. Don't wanna be too harsh, but seriously, there's two words in the topic and BOTH are spelled wrong. Merriam Webster's can help you in that department. As far as your transmission goes, if it 'aint broke don't fix it, or like sailor said, do a rebuild. Maybe just new fluid. There's nothing wrong with the 4spd overdrive that's in there, nala. Enough said.

Actually, it will just bounce off the rev limiter. Of course, it might eventually blow up. lol

I have to laugh at posting this on a forum as opposed to going out to your car and trying it. So...ha.

In D1, transmission will shift between L and D1.In D2, transmission will shift between L, D1 and D2.In D3, transmission will go up to D3.In D or Drive, all the gears are available, including overdrive.

Most of the time, D is just right. Its also the most fuel efficient gearing to be in.If you're towing a trailer, you probably want to keep it in D3.If you're driving in icy conditions, you might want to keep it in D2, maybe D1.If your having a hard time going up a hill, you may want to put yourself in D1 or D2.

^ What he said. Bump shifting defined. But will it help the J's performance or hurt it?

as far as i know bump shifting in the j30 for racing purposes will be more wear and tear in the transmission and decrease its life

It's pointless. If you're racing then you'll be at WOT anyways and if so, the transmission will hold the shift point to max anyways so you wouldn't be gaining anything by doing it manually.

If you're not at WOT then manually shifting it might be of some benefit so to hold it in a gear longer than the transmission would want to on its own but I find the J30 transmission is kind of slow to shift anyways.

Wide Open Throttle.

Pedal on the floor. There's a switch that closes when you floor it and that tells the ECU you wanna go NOW !!!get in the car but dont start it.press the gas pedal slowly to the floor and you will hear the switch click when you get to the floor.
