Yeah thats right. I've been offered and have accepted an asst. coaches position with the Patriots. I was surprised at the offer since I never played organized sports. Being a native new yorker, life long Giants and now Baltimore Ravens fan - never would I imagine I would become a member of the Patriots organization.

Oh I forgot to mention it is the Parkville Patriots of Baltimore. Both my 6 and 8 yr olds are playing. Although the preseason has just started for us - I am really enjoying the experience of being "Coach" (our 1st scrimmage is at 9)

I know many of you on this forum are young and may not even have children yet - but this is one of the most fulfiling things I've been involved in. Beyond football - you can tell some of these kids really need and enjoy the "Father Figure" type interaction.

...because I saw an Altima Coupe on the way to practice yesterday.

We had our 1st scrimmage this morning against a team that was MUCH more organized than we were. We did four sets of 10 play possesions. We managed to advance the ball somewhat and score twice in long running plays - but their defense was in our backfield all day they got several sacks on us.

As some of you know over the last 2 years I've spent as much time on the AC forum as much (maybe more) as the G forum. So I figured I would post on a forum where some of the members actually know me (or at least know my username/car).

Mods -feel free to move this thread to the AC general - or G35 forum if you see fit. No offense -

Nah No screamin at the refs for me - although you do have to scream at the kids sometimes to get them to perform their position assignments. the kids look up to you - but more than that they look TO you. The coaches have the responsibility of designing the plays, and keeping the kids motivated, aware and competitive on every play. It's only been a week and I already see the difference in my own kids and a couple of the other kids self esteem and competitiveness/drive etc

Update

Wow - we've been at this since August - great experience.

Regular season ended.

My 6 year old's team did ok - at the 5-6 level they dont really keep score and the games are not officiated - they won a couple of games and lost most - My son was one of the strongest players on the team on both sides of the ball. He's a bit more agressive than my 8 year old. I cant wait until they can play on the same team. He had a great year -

My 8 year old's team finished 7w 2L - and made the second seed in the playoffs. My older son mainly plays defensive or offensive line - He's one of the bigger kids on the team - he's doing well for his 1st year - we are fortunate that he is surrounded by a good team with a couple of little beasts.

We won our 1st playoff game - our next game is Friday Night Lights baby. The winner of that game will determine who will play in the championship game against (i assume) Middle River. Middle River finished the season 9W 0L and regularly scored 30-40 pts. AND the shut out the opposing offense every single game. We lost to them early in the season 18-0. Not a single point scored against middle river all season!!
