I wanted to add a Compustar 2WSS-AS to my '01 Pathfinder. Is this incredibly difficult to do? What happens with my engine immobilizer? Will it be disabled or defective? Will my factory alarm be removed? The bypass module for the immobilzer, is it a good idea? Hopefully thinking of making the purchase within this week. Hope someone can help...

I dont know what this device you are adding is, but the immobilizer is the safest antitheft device a car can have as it shuts down the ECM when the correct key is not used to start the car, no amount of hot wiring is gonna get it started. It has to see a programmed key. Any device that will by pass this is really not a good idea. Further more I dont know who is installing the system but I dont see how they would get the info to do it as nissan does not freely release info on the NATS system to anyone to protect its integrity in preventing your car from being stolen. When we have some one come in to have a key programmed and the car was towed in we ask for proof of ownership of the car.

I think the device mentioned is an automatic starter - I have wondered about the same issue myself - is an automatic starter advisable?

Not if you havre a manual trans, I have seen to many mishaps. If its an auto its not so bad but you still have the loss of theft security if it has the NATS system bypassed.
